Does anyone know any good Press Release Sites? :)

Do you think it's worth submitting to these sites?

    Please share your views!

    PRweb

It's worth it if you 1) have something worthwhile to share and 2) write a solid press release.

Send it to a real newswire instead if you want a better chance of real coverage (like the appropriate editor / writer / regional bureau of AP - www.ap.org - free by the way), and then manually submit it to your local media after putting a local spin on it.

If you're mostly interested in bloggers and online outlets (or willing to pay enough for a top 10 (preferably) or at least top 30 placement), then go with Jason't suggestion of PRweb. If you're looking for free options go with www.PR.com - it gets everything at least into Google news, so you might get some views through searches.

I could be wrong, but aren't those article distribution sites, and not press release sites? You have to be careful not to confuse the two. Article distribution sites are generally for people who want their article re-posted as-is. You don't want that to happen to a press release; you want it to spark a real story.

Montux, PRweb is good, but certainly not THE best. ;) For coverage, real newswires are almost always a better option. And if the main concern is links, you can get cheaper high PR links from more relevant sites than PRweb. Actually, using a real newswire service can help with that as well, if it leads to coverage in more large online outlets, who include a link in their articles.

But problem is, like one you suggested ap.org there are very few "real newswire services" by which you can distribute your PR online.

No... you can use prnewswire.com, marketwire.com, businesswire.com - all I'd consider better than PRweb for getting coverage, b/c of better geo- and niche-targeting directly to journalists. It's more expensive (unless you're paying for top placements on PRweb anyway), but still better. AP.org is free, and if you pitch it well and to the right person, you can still get much better coverage than PRweb. It takes a little bit of time, but considering it's free and can potentially lead to more, it's certainly better. ;) I'm not saying PRweb is "bad;" just that it's not the best option simply because it's the one most webmasters seem to gravitate towards.

Sorry for this noob question, but should you only submit to one pr site (i.e. prweb), or does it make sense to submit to several sites?

It won't hurt you to submit to several sites. But submitting to all of them is a waste of time, b/c your ROI won't be very high compared to the added time you'll lose on extra submissions. If you want the free route, just stick to www.PR.com (gets everything I've seen into Google News, so you'll at least have a few searchers come across you), and www.prleap.com (which gets most into Google news - as long as they're decent). Most free sites can't even get you listed there, and they don't carry enough direct traffic of their own to give you many (if any) more pickups. And a backlink on a small PR site that's completely irrelevant just isn't worth it for the time. Target ones that will get you actual pickups, which will lead to quality backlinks on relevant blogs or media sites.

Is it improper to actually just find, say email addresses, to editors of certain relevant publications and email (or fax) your press release directly to them?

No. You should be doing that. Just to it appropriately. Look on the publication's site, or in media directories, for the information. If they have specific rules for submissions, follow them! If you don't, you'll be ignored, so it's not worth the effort. Also, don't just look for a general editor. Look for a beat editor or writer covering your specific region or niche when possible. If you can't find information, call them. You can usually get a receptionist to tell you who covers your area, and how they prefer to be reached.
