    Can anyone give me some advice on how to sell links on my website? It is a website with a weird sort of way of links. Similar to a directory and yet not even close to it.

    Currently I am using Google to advertise to webmaster related websites, as well as showing my services on this forum. I am new to this, so please bare with me.

    The website is www.freakyads.net

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    ~D_C

    There are too many of those kinds of sites... you need to try to make something unique. I really doubt that you will make any sale. Sorry =(

    So, what are you guys saying. Stop it, throw away the script I bought and give up on the website?

    I was looking more along the lines of "There are to many of this kind of website BUT you could try..."

    Or is there a but? You kinda shot me down there and i'm wondering if it is even worth it.

    Ah, I see. Well currently I am just looking for people looking for cheap advertiseing for backlinks. Should work eventually. I am advertising on adwords to webmaster websites as well as general websites. I am also doing a few other things, as well as myspace messages for a few hundred a day.

    Its a few days old, I'm looking to get it started.

    Any advice?

    I do like the domain name - so I'd say develop something around the concept of 'freaky-ads' (something that is actually funny) and try to market that. The current concept is totally uninteresting for people and therefor not interesting to marketeers.

    Something like a blog? I was thinking about putting one on the website, but still have the script running the ads.

    As for a suggestion on promoting it, I'd try to create an "opt in" list, with the promise of a newsletter and so on...

    Key to this, to get people to sign up, offer a free ebook to anyone who will give you their email address explaining the concept of backlinks and all that jazz, letting people know why backlinks and anchor text are important to SEO. I would imagine it doesn't have to be huge or anything, or even all that original. Just the basic information that is readily available on DP, but in a condensed, organized format.

    Let people know right up front exactly what the book is about, because even though you will get less people signing up and requesting your book, you are going to save yourself headaches later on by getting a fairly well targeted list, people who are somewhat new to the concept of backlinks and anchor text. (people who allready "get" that concept are pretty much aware what your site can and can't do for them, and they are not going to buy until you have the PR and whatever else to justify the purchase of a link on your site.) Alternatively, you could have a more advanced book available too if you wanted to target those people, but your site is going to have to offer more than just the potential of a good idea getting big to attract people who know exactly what does and doesn't work for their site.

    Use the newsletter as a follow up, keeping people interested. Let people know if links start selling, whatever you think might motivate them to buy, and promote the hell out of your own site.

    I do have one question, isn't this going to show up as a bit spammy to the search engines? It seems like the page is nothing but links and no content. I think if you could do something to make your page a bit more valuable to people purchasing links (by adding some content) you would be better off. As it is, won't the site just show up as a spam site on the search engines?

    I don't mean any offense by that, and it's nothing personal. I've also wondered how pixellotto.com will get away(or if it will) with not showing as a spam site on the SEs as well. At least Milliondollarhomepage.com had a blog for content and had it's "human interest" element. Pixellotto is just like any of the wannabe pixel sites that were launched after Tew saw his success for the site, with the addition of his name on it.

    I wouldn't make a newsletter. Your target market is webmasters who are pretty weary about giving up their email.

    Maybe try limiting the tag cloud? It looks like there is too much going on.

    A blog would be a good idea, IMO. As for the script - no use for it at all. Always try to do something unique, not somebody elses idea. You could try and use their idea and improve on it, but that would mean adapting the script and marketing this idea, but since the idea is lame (IMO) I would certainly not go for that.

    @Zonehero-
    Thanks for the information and tips. No offense taken at all.

    @Seiya-
    I know, I have started to build back links.

    @KH7-
    I think I am going to try a website that is giving away the e-book and also the website will have a blog. The information will try to be useful to webmasters as well as just things going on in the internet world.

    Thanks everyone so much! I got a lot more advice I thought I would get. Does the idea I directed to KH7 sounds alright?
