Discord didn’t cause forums to be inactive nor the death of certain ones. You can blame the rise of Reddit for this one. Discord is just a newer version of AIM messenger and MSN/Skype, that’s all it is.
This is an old thread, but I've been searching around for why. You have thousand of bots hitting the site, but yet only a few logged in users (I remember when this was 100+ users all online). Even the sites that generate forums (Xenforo , VB), they are almost dead too... no one is logging in I think it's more AI than anything. People use AI for their Q/A, forum still have a place, but discord / redit have taken a big bite out of this too The forums are basically getting eaten by the bots, barely used with real users (so not much new human content), and mostly used for ai training.... I hope even with a few users (I know the costs of running forums), but, I hope we can have them stick around for years to come (just reduce the costs somehow)... I hope you're still turning over a profit and its worth while @digitalpoint (I don't want to see a message one day that it's become unprofitable) Today: (members: 9, guests: 13,857, robots: 291) I would like to see the stats, when this happened, a graph of the drop off pattern over the last few years, for: members online vs guests/robots (I suspect a lot of those guests are ai training bots, but no proof of that)
It's no longer open to public viewing and this 3 likes thing was pure lunacy. It's as if the owner tried to deliberately kill this place. (maybe he did)
I noticed a lot of forums are dead, and since I love to rant about survival horror video games as thesaunderschild, I basically had to start doing it in off topic sections of forums that generally cover other subjects. It is at that point in time, reality begins to set in that they are in fact, virtually obsolete. But it is kind of pointless. I do appreciate the users who reply. But in the grand scheme of things, it's not like you're getting a massive thread going with additional members. There's just one person replying to be nice. Then if you go to the actual busy gaming forums like, let's just say NeoGAF, Reddit or GameFAQs, you are likely to be replied to since that's where most gaming fans flock to online. But then you often run into some users who are asshat types. They encourage you to reply to instigate what they kid on is a debate, when they desire not to be proven wrong, but to flame you further. So, really. What is the point? Not to mention having posting restrictions and an outdated layout, doesn't help your cause any. I'm also seeing loads of dumb AI clips on social media now. Like either Donald Trump messing with other controversial world leaders, or has been 80's action stars appearing to go springboarding to the top of a skyscraper, or a helicopter. The people pouring some popcorn in the volcano one is pretty funny, I suppose.
