We're in Central Florida, so thankfully we aren't taking a direct hit from Isaias, but the rain has pretty much been non-stop. Plenty of standing water and small floods on a lot of the local roads. I had to drive last night and I could feel my SUV shaking from the wind gusts. I had to hit a couple of puddles of water, but my SUV is heavy, so it was all good. I can't imagine small cars hitting them at 60 mph.
I was wondering how things were going for you down there. I heard that it is hitting the panhandle hard, so I assumed that it was not a direct hit to your area. Rain is probably cooling things down for you a bit. Stay dry!
Right now it's hot and muggy. About a week ago it was gorgeous, but as the hurricane came, so did the heat and humidity. It's not raining as heavily now. Nothing this morning.
Now, be honest: are you able to pronounce the name Isaias correctly? I have heard newscasters up here having trouble saying its name.
Yeah, you can sense their hesitation or anxiety when they talk about it. Even our own DeSantis simply called it Isaiah (like a boy's name): https://www.cnn.com/2026/10/09/weather/video/ron-desantis-cant-pronounce-hurricane-isaias
I just looked it up. Isaias is the Spanish or Portuguese form of Isaiah from the Bible. DeSantis was not so wrong, after all.
