Trouble claiming a LinkedIn page

Way back in 2019, our family business changed its name, and I updated my LinkedIn to show the change. The business wouldn't benefit from a LinkedIn page, so I never bothered to set one up. I got enough cold calls from recruiters as it was.

Roll on 2026 and LinkedIn pages are useful fodder for AI, so I figured I'd claim it and flesh it out a bit. The page has our address and the http version of our website. I doubt we ever had it as http rather than https but whatever. I don't want to abandon that page because it's obviously ours and the url is pretty good.

So, I tried to claim it - errors.
I tried to delete it - errors.
I used LinkedIn support and only got a chatbot, it's pretty good but it couldn't solve my problem.

Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? or managed to get human support?

I had a company profile page on linkedin that was old. The person assigned to manage it lost her password and was unable to login to her linkedin account and we could not get that fixed. So, I had someone else add themselves as a new, current employee of the company and after a week or two, linkedin allowed that new person to begin editing the old profile.

Sounds like I need to get onto my husband's account then. He's not listed as staff on it so it's worth a try.

I really didn't expect that to work. My account is verified, has a work email attached, profile photo and a reasonably active account. His - no work email, no photo, no connections, never checked since it was created - and no problems claiming the business. I've added myself in as a superadmin - thank you for suggesting that!

Every once in a great while, we sales and marketing types can get a "technical" solution right. ;)

Btw, the person that added the company to his profile was similar to your husband, in that he had no picture, no connections, no anything, for the most part. Not sure if that makes it easier...

All that time and effort and LinkedIn just turned around and deleted the page - no email, no messaging, just gone.

That's weird. Our reclaimed page has been running for months.

I made a single post with a photo of my husband and our business. A rudimentary search would show that the photo matched the website and google maps. We only need it for seo, our customer base probably has never heard of linkedin. infuriating.

Maybe this is an opportunity to create a brand new company profile on linkedin?

Who cares? It's Linkedin. There are so many negative memes and posts about it on X, even from Elon himself. They banned my account for "spam." Okay... so posting in different groups to them is spam. Then why the hell do you have thousands of groups that WANT you to post, but when you actually do, Linkedin bans you?

Basically, it's all automated and nobody cares. I will NEVER create another account with them.

I am not sure on this, but linkedin may be an authority site for LLM's. When I ask a question on ChatGPT about a person or company, I many times find some of the info coming from linkedin. I do use it regularly to look up people that I am meeting with or otherwise have reason to connect with. I also use it to gauge the size of companies (# of employees is visible) and learn a bit more about them. It is also an easy way to keep up with the current contact information for your friends, colleagues, former colleagues, etc. E.g., last time I spoke with someone was five of their emails ago, but their info will be current on linkedin.

I do agree that linkedin has become less and less valuable, however. Never read my feeds, don't post, and have never visited any of their groups/forums. I do have 4,700+ connections, since I joined way back in the 1999-2000 timeframe (back when they were just out of beta and you had to have a current member invite you) but have not really tried to use my network. It will be interesting to see how they integrate AI for members and if that makes it more valuable.

It was funny when Musk said, "Posting on Linkedin is cringe." Before that, he posted about the professional platform's culture of corporate self-promotion and toxic positivity being "unbearably cringe."

I do realize there are some high-profile figures lurking on it and real business connections happen on a daily basis, but for a small fish like me, none of those things really matter. Every time I visit it, the self-promoting and fake positivity make me wanna gag.

It has done two things since Microsoft bought it: got much worse technically and policy-wise; and it has become ubiquitous in the high tech business world. It is the power rolodex for high tech businesspeople. Forget the posting, the forums, etc. The real value for businesspeople like me is that it contains all of my contacts, is easy to add contacts to and these contacts tend to keep their linkedin profiles up to date, so the information is always current. At tech trade shows, no one has business cards any more. They have their linkedin QR code on their phone and we connect. And, when I am researching a company, it is the first place I go for one number: number of employees, which linkedin calculates in real time and is more accurate than any other site providing this data, imo.

It is worth separating three issues: access to the old admin account, proof that the company still exists, and proof that the current team represents the business. I would also make sure the company domain, email addresses and public contact details are consistent before submitting a request.

We were trying to "claim this business" that had our website and physical address. No problems with any accounts. My account had been linked to the page for 6+ years, had the email, was verified. The account that claimed it had none of those things.
