With so many new TLDs like .ai, .io, and .xyz gaining traction, I’m wondering if .com still carries the same authority and trust it once did. Have you noticed any ranking or branding difference between .com and newer extensions?
Stick with .com unless your business is sufficiently niche to warrant using a niche domain. For instance, our family business uses .nz because we have a physical product that we can only offer in New Zealand. Our customers wouldn't mind a .com but a .nz reassures them they're dealing with a local company. The same will go for some of the tech niches etc so consider your target market and how sophisticated etc they are when viewing website addresses.
Yep, .com and ccTLDs to target local customers. Only reason non .com domains are registered is because the .com is already taken
.com is still the king in 2025 becomes evident when examining user behavior, resale values, and global recognition patterns.
Hi Willie Will, The newer extensions definitely have momentum in specific niches though. .ai in particular has become almost a category signal for AI startups, and .io has a similar feel in developer ecosystems.
It never did. There exist the domains, which had, have, an will have more respect. dot INT, dot GOV, dot EDU, dot VA, and so on.
