I have been testing different photo editing and photo enhancement tools recently. Results vary a lot depending on the image. Some tools improve faces well. Others only sharpen the image and add noise. I am curious how others here judge quality. Do you focus more on sharpness or natural look? What matters most when enhancing old or low-resolution photos? Would like to hear your experience.
I prefer lightroom. It has some AI which is probably good for old or low res, but for regular photos it's awesome.
My daughter and son-in-law have started a part-time wedding photography business. They take hundreds and hundreds of pictures at an event and then spend many hours (days, actually) editing them. I have told them to look at training an AI system to learn what and how they edit these photo's to save them editing time after future shoots. I believe that there are systems available now that incorporate this type of AI into editing software. Are my suggestions to them realistic?
For me, a natural look matters more than extreme sharpness. Too much sharpening often ruins faces and adds noise. When working with old or low-res photos, I focus on preserving details and skin tones rather than making the image look “over-processed.”
