Need review on my new site

It's a new site - a directory where everyone can add their online or offline business or service.

I need a review of the design of the homepage, category page, and the post itself.
Let me know every error you see, every glitch, color, layout, and style.
Or maybe add something, for example, add some extra categories or sub-categories.
    Or something better to remove...
    Whatever.. I need feedback...

You can also add your business - if I approve it, I will publish it.
    The directory is free.
You can insert only 1 link in the content, and add your website URL in the contact info.
The link from the content must lead to your service page or post "about us", etc, but not to the homepage.

It’s so simple and honestly, a bit boring. I would say it’s good and helpful… if we were living in the year 2000!

I asked for feedback on my website — maybe suggestions on what to add or improve.
Instead, you just said it looks like a site from the 2000s.
    That’s not helpful.
The site is new, minimalistic, and functional.
It has no effects because it's not finished yet — I’m still testing the structure and layout.
I may add icons, descriptions, or visual blocks later.
If you see something worth improving, say it clearly.
“Too much white space,” “try grouping categories,” “add icons for clarity” — that would be useful.
Just saying it "looks old" means nothing.

Not every site needs fancy effects or modern animations.
    Simplicity can be intentional.
If you have real suggestions, tell them.
Or show me your modern website.

Damn, I just don’t get it.
Hundreds have viewed it, but no one commented except one weirdo who started his activity on the forum with spam.
Sites with awful, crooked design get comments, but when I ask to review my site or design - silence.
What’s wrong with my sites/themes?

Too many empty categories. My personal philosophy on directories is that the owner has to add quality, authority sites to each category. If the category is empty, or full of small, unimportant sites people won't want their site in there and the human visitors will see the whole site as less useful.

Overall, it looks nice, but I don't know your business plan and how you plan to drive traffic to your site to elevate it from a link farm to a useful directory.

I viewed the source of the listing page and the code needs work. You're using WordPress so all those styles and scripts can and should be enqueued for faster loading and being loaded in the right place. There are a whole lot of styles at the bottom of the page where they won't be used for anything.

    Thanks!
I’ll start adding content myself from next week.
It's a draft - I’ve added some CSS to the template since I can’t keep modifying the main CSS file all the time.
I wanted to ask about the site structure — the homepage, category page, and single post layout.

On the category page, I chose not to show the featured image of each announcement because I think it might distract visitors from focusing on the titles.
Instead, I made a 3-row grid and added the published date right after the excerpt.
Also, I decided to use “know more” instead of the usual “read more”.

The announcement (post) is where I especially wanted to hear other opinions.
    I’ve reviewed many directory sites.
There are some elements I decided not to repeat, and others I chose to incorporate into my theme.
I don’t want the post to look heavy or overloaded with elements, but for example, I can’t remove the gallery or Google Maps, because without them, the announcement looks empty and boring.
I’d like to know how it all looks together and get your feedback.

I combined categories and tags into one and decided not to include a sidebar or related announcements, since it’s unlikely anyone would appreciate seeing competitor services displayed on their page.

I also added a Blog for SEO purposes.
All posts in Blog have a standard post layout - sidebar+content+sidebar.

This is exactly what I was asking for - ideas about what to remove from the structure and what to add.
I also have no idea if I need the "welcome" note or better remove it.

And, of cause, to test the Submit Page.

This is the kind of thing people usually mean when they ask for a "review" online.

Yes, you did ask for a review. My bad. Here goes.

Design: I am not an expert designer, but directories are not known for looking beautiful. So, yes, the current layout gets the job done.
The category page: The layout is pretty standard. However, I was expecting something different that would tempt me to "Visit This Link."
The submission process: Thumbs up! I found the process very easy to follow. Even though I would recommend a modern editor. Besides that, you have a great idea and I wish you all the best.

    Hi Mayazir,
Thanks for sharing your project - it's always inspiring to see someone building a new platform from scratch!
    From a first glance:
    • The homepage layout is clean, but maybe a more modern font and some dynamic elements (like subtle animations or hover effects) could help make it feel more current.
    • On the category page, consider improving spacing and visual hierarchy — titles and thumbnails could stand out more.
    • The post page is straightforward, though maybe you could add more visual content (images, maps, icons) to make the reading experience more engaging.
Also, if you plan to introduce explainer videos or animated tutorials for listings or onboarding, check out this studio. They specialize in animated videos for businesses and directories like yours.
Looking forward to seeing how the site evolves!

    Thanks.

The homepage is hard to design for now because the site is still empty.
I had planned to start filling it this Monday, but it didn’t work out.
I’ll probably begin in about two weeks.

Most likely, the homepage will display recent listings and randomly select listings from specific categories.
But since the site is empty for now, I can’t add any of that yet.

    As for the category page...
If I add a featured image, it might be distracting, because the focus should be on the listings themselves.
I don’t have a final decision on how to design the category page yet, that's why I asked for review and advice.

Right now, I’m more interested in opinions on the listing-post, its design, structure, and appearance.
Yes, I’ll be adding icons later on, which will make it look more elegant.
