Google says 60% of the web is duplicate content. Of course I have no idea how your site is setup, why you are worrying about it, but there is a good chance it is not important.

Noindex is not good SEO practice according to me ... you can use canonical tag if you think some pages are duplicate .... If page 1 and 2 is same then add canonical tag on page 2 that its canonical of page 1 ..... simple and best way.

Yes you should noidex certain pages that have no value being in the SERP's. Sometimes Google will not index these for you, but I go ahead and do it. If you noindex your category pages make sure they're still "follow" so "link juice" flows from them to the individual posts in that category. Tag's and archive pages are useless in the index.
This also helps your "crawl budget" as well and the bots can focus on the important pages on your site.

Noindex is good in your SEO when the implementation is appropriate. Let's say your E-commerce site has transaction pages and you would like to Noindex these pages to save the crawl budget because you don't need to rank on these pages or show them to google searches.
