What's your go to method to shorten your sick days?

PS I know I can Google it. But I'd like to hear this from the DPers.

    You have sick days?

I'm from the generation that was told to "soldier on" and then got ltold we couldn't have pseudoephidrene!

Since I'm self employed "staying home" is the only option

I have been a big user of the Airborne nutritional supplement for a long time, now. If I recall, it was invented by a schoolteacher who was sick of getting sick from being in schools all day long. It is a combination of vitamins, minerals, etc., that boost your immune system. I have found that if I start taking it at the first sign of a cold or flu, it is most effective and greatly diminishes the symptoms and the length of illness. Sometimes, it stops it from progressing entirely. But it helps at any point in the illness, in my experience. I one time mentioned it to a walk-in medical center doctor who sees cold and flu patients all day long and he remarked that it certainly does "quickly fill up the tank" of your immune system. I sometimes describe myself as their best salesperson and I will add that people that I have gotten started with it have stuck with using it thereafter.

When it first started, they only had a fizz tab (like Alka Seltzer) that you would put in water and drink it. Then they came out with chewables that, while strong tasting, were as effective. They continue to offer both those types of Airborne, but they recently came out with gummies that taste just like candy gummies and are just as effective as they other types. Worth trying!

So, I remember when the most effective nasal/lung decongestant was a product named Contac. It had a trace amount of rat poison (or was it snake venom?) in it that dried your sinuses and congested lungs right up. Worked great at stopping the sniffling, coughing, etc. I recall taking it for years in the 1960's and 1970's. Then something happened (FDA intervention? Bad PR?) and they cut out the poison and replaced it with something like pseudoephedrine and its effectiveness was dramatically reduced. Everyone complained how Contac was no longer as effective. :)

I am self employed as well. I have other engagements that sometimes can't be cancelled and for some weird reason when I am scheduled to be there I always get a sore throat or a full blown cold. Here in the US it's all about chicken noodle soup or chicken broth and drinking plenty of water. That doesn't do much, if anything, for me. I was thinking maybe the DPers that live outside of North America have their own remedies that work.

Duly noted. I will ask my wife to get it for me tonight, cuz I, as you can imagine, am sick. Don't know if it's going to help someone who's already sick, but I'll try anything.

You can take the recommended dosage every four hours. Best to do so, at first.

Bed rest. 10-20 oranges per day. Lots of water. Lots of sunshine. Nothing else.

Seldom down longer than a day.

I use this to fast relief in cold and flu and suggest you keep yourself hydrated. Warm lemon water with honey will assist ease congestion while also keeping you hydrated. Rest is necessary for the body to heal fast.

At home we all use pure honey bee as soon as any member of the family start with any symptom. That's it. We rarely get sick.

Used to be when I caught a cold if I didn't take anything for it the thing would stick with me for 3 weeks. If I took something for it the cold would only last 21 days.

Now through the summer I take 1K mg of vitamin C twice a day. From November through March I increase that 1K mg to 6K. A cold or flu normally doesn't last with me more than 3 days since I started that regimen.

Of course I did quit smoking in 1986 and I have to give that move some credit.

A friend once told me to (at the first symptoms of cold or flu) take a half glass of whiskey, drink it down, and wrap up in a sleeping bag or heavy blankets for the night. He said I'd sweat the stuff right out of me.

I tried that a few times - but I simply couldn't stop at just one.

LOL, lol. I recall a similar story from the former Chief of Thoracic Surgery at a big hospital in Moscow. He one time told me that they had a joke amongst the surgeons for certain ailments: "If we treat it aggressively, using all of the latest technology, we can cure his problem in 30 days; left untreated, the disease will resolve itself in a month."
