"The spoon shines at the end.."

This came into my mind because, often when kids (or adults) take peanut butter, the spoon is licked until it's shining again :)

After reading this thread I may never eat peanut butter again. So ...what do you get if you cross an elephant with a jar of peanut butter? You get an elephant that sticks to the roof of your mouth, or you get a jar of peanut butter that never forgets.

This just may be me, but don't most people use a knife to spread peanut butter on bread?

Plus a spoon, no matter how hard you lick it, isn't going to shine. Peanut butter doesn't easily melt or dissolve.

@mrforum You don't need a slogan. Back in the 50's and 60's slogans (on food items) were a thing. Black and white commercials, I sometimes see on TV from that era, always had some silly slogans showing. I think it went all the way into the 70's. Just make a nice label that makes your brand stand out and it'll work just fine.

My dog, however, can lick a peanut butter spoon shiny clean. It may be dripping/oozing with spittle, but it will shine under the sun. :)

This, of course, is the challenge: to stand out on the shelf. This what the top marketers in the world get paid to do (e.g., head of product line marketing for Proctor & Gamble) which is to figure out what color and design of the toothpaste box will increase sales .01% which means millions in additional profits. The OP is thinking to do it with a brief, catchy headline on his packaging. I would tend to think more in terms of color, design and product name, but I am a B2B guy and have no idea what the psychology of the peanut butter shelf wars is right now.

But believe that there are nonstop grocery shelf wars going on constantly here in the U.S. I tend to go shopping at low traffic times like early in the morning and store staff and their vendors are often re-stocking the shelves. Moving aside your competitor to get the eye-level shelf or other strong positioning seems to be de rigeur for just about all vendors. The products, themselves, are constantly changing packaging size, color and more to differentiate and catch the shopper's eye. This stuff really matters in retail.

Forget about World War 1, forget about World War 2, get out of my face Desert Storm, we now have the "Peanut Butter Shelf Wars". I think that perhaps I may have died, and gone straight to hell.

I happen to have been witnessing this battle up close and personal for quite a few years, now. It turns out that I rarely eat peanut butter, but it is a staple for my wife and kids. And they ONLY eat Peter Pan peanut butter. JIF and Skippy seem to be able to grab the bulk of the shelf space, though Reese's is an up-and-comer that is making inroads into Prime shelf positions. Peter Pan is typically on the "shelf of shame" with the other low volume, organic crap in my stores. BTW, we are located equidistant from about 6 different grocery stores around the area, so we visit most of them in any given month. :)

Is this just another white label thing where it's all the same you just slap another label on it like
    "Peanut Butter Love!?"
"Our's is smoother, creamier and butter than yours!"
    "Lick my butter Peanut"

Instead of calling it peanut butter why not call "a smooth peanutty glaze"
ok, I'm now lost, confused and hungry thanks.

If that is not bad enough, this is a 6-year-old article, but it shows how a manufacturer can win a grocery store shelf war by paying a slotting fee for premium shelf space:

    https://www.vox.com/2016/11/22/13707022/grocery-store-slotting-fees-slotting-allowances

As I think about it, War is Hell, isn't it? :)

I have seen a product called that I believe that it was intended to be put on ice cream.

What type of spoons do you have that don't shine? or are your licking skills so substandard? Your poor wife! It's too early in the morning here to be descending into the gutter!

And none of those are worth the powder to blow them up.

All they are is a mishmash of cheap sub-standard ingredients with a dab of peanut butter to make those cheap substandard ingredients sellable and palatable.

Well, I think most people here use spoons, and when I google "peanut butter" i mostly see spoons rather than knives.
May be in some places, knives are used mainly.

I think I cannot use "The knife shines at the end.." because it sounds like I am selling something which murders can use so that there will be no clue on the murder at the end.

Maybe people are civilised like in the olden days where you'd take butter and jam and create little blobs on your plate using a butter knife or spoon and only then would you use your knife to spread them.

That's exactly my point. Skippy started in 1933. I am not exactly sure when the slogan came about, but I wouldn't be surprised that it happened around that time also. This is 2021. If you didn't point that slogan to me I wouldn't even notice it. If your jar has a slogan I won't notice it either.
