What does it really mean to be a copywriter?

    In 15 years…

I’ve seen a lot of copywriters come and go.

    Some get burnt out.

Some never get beyond feast or famine.

Some create their own products and stop doing client work.

Shawn Morrow and I are creating a product right now called The Tesla Code.

It should have launched months ago, but that’s neither here nor there.

    However…

I seriously doubt I’ll ever stop working with clients…

    Because of this one thing:

When the right biz owners find me… or get referred over to me…

I get to leverage their infrastructure, their ad dollars, their superior products… and desire to co-collaborate in developing profitable controls.

    For instance…

The company I’m working with right now spent millions of dollars building their own factories in London, Miami and Tel Aviv.

Their products were all developed in their own labs…

    It’s got multiple patents…

And tons of 5 star reviews.

    Better yet…

They’ve spent the last year and ½ bringing together the right internal team of top, top-level design, production and media buying.

The last piece they were looking for was a copywriter to bring it all together.

    Now…

Why is this the Holy Grail of freelance copywriting clients?

    Simple.

    You get real world data…

    On your copy and creative.

    However…

What biz owners are really looking for…

    And I’m talking as one… not “just” a copywriter…

Is 100% commitment to seeing your work… work.

    In other words…

Biz owners want to know if they can get the right exposure for your copy…

That you’re willing to do… to write… whatever it takes to convert at a 3x plus ROAS.

    One caveat…

    In the last 5 years…

I’ve mentored a handful of copywriters.

    I noticed one common theme:

They didn’t know how to read…

    And respond…

    To data.

    And honestly…

That’s the KEY to becoming… and staying at the top of this industry…

Knowing HOW to adjust, pivot, optimize and scale…

    Quickly.

    Then…

It’s knowing HOW to collaborate with media buyers…

So everyone knows exactly what everyone else is working on…

    And why.

    But there’s a 2nd part to this:

    Backend royalties.

When you stand behind your work…

    Until it works…

    You can negotiate performance-based compensation.

That’s where the real… big… F YOU money comes from.

    Not upfront payments.

Sure, you can get $50k to write a VSL script.

    But getting $10 a sale…

Once you prove you can scale…

Is the real gold at the end of the rainbow.

It’s also the way out of feast or famine… forever.

    Well, that is…

If you manage your money well.

    But that’s a different story…

And I’m probably not the guy you wanna listen to.

I find the way that you have spaced your sentences irritating and pointless. Good job in turning your readers off!

And what is your point? You ramble on and on (yes, I FORCED myself to read it all), but I see NOTHING of value in the whole rant.

I stopped reading about halfway down. The extra spacing was annoying and shows a clear lack of judgment when it comes to copywriting. Worse, the OP does not really answer his own subject line question.

A professional copywriter basically pitches your brand to a target audience. They promote or sell a product or an idea directly through some type of creative campaign. These could be ads on the subway, social media or in a magazine, a commercial for TV, a direct marketing email and so on.

This spacing is killing me. Hopefully, you avoid it writing commercial texts.
