Is bot traffic good for something?

The answer is probably no, but for a while now I've been blocking and then sending bot traffic that comes to my site to a little "trap" page. The hit counter shows anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 hits a day. Can it be used for something at all? Are there services that need that kind of traffic?

You can send bot traffic to any site for the sole purpose of increasing the hit counter, and some people will even pay for that.

When you say bot traffic--you are referring to random and possibly even rogue bots that are crawling/scraping your page and you have blocked or like you are maybe buying traffic or have publishers that provide traffic and you are using a script w/a set set of rules to block incoming traffic that would appear to be bot/software generated??

Yes, mostly rogue bots. The petalbot from Huawei International Pte Ltd will be one of them. May look something like: petalbot-114-119-147-91.aspiegel.com. Then there's ec2-54-209-213-191.compute-1.amazonaws.com. And a few others. They all come under a host of IP addresses.

WOW--that is a lot of activity from search engine and directory bots. My answer as seems to be answer already is not much you can do with it unless you have someone who specifically wants numbers and might be tricky even monetizing then because lots of variables at play as to what the bot activity will continue to be once they realize they are being redirected offsite..so to speak. A special setup might be required to monetize.
Now as I am sitting here thinking this thru--you might actually monetize for some type of ping service to/from search engines/directories as a compliment to SEO/SES. If you put a little leg work in and confirmed your bots represented a fair amount of quality search/directory pages--it could make some $$ if you have a market and would be a viable service for webmasters--IMO. You have almost talked me into doing it.

Search engines literally crawl your website pretty much like a spider (sorry for those who don't like spiders), creating a spider web outline of your website. That is why internal links are so important to your SEO that is you have a link in say one blog article that sends the visitor to another page of your website (the key is that the second page has to have relevance to the existing one they are reading).

Basically it's good for Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short.

Yes, if they are 2-3 major search engine bots that respect search engine rules, everything else... no thanks. They are just using my web hosting resources.

It used to be good for alexa ranking i am not sure about now. Or if you have a site click counter your members will thinks its a a lot of traffic. I find it is worthless to make money.

Good bots are generally beneficial while bad bots actively try to hurt. Whether it's a DDoS attack, price scraping, account takeovers, or other types of attack, you need to find a way to block bad bots while letting good bots through.

The answer is a big NO.

just justify the answer, why bot traffic isn't good:

    1) bot traffic doesn't interact, decreasing the visit duration to a deadly limit.

    2) bot traffic is meant to hit the back button, which raises the bounce rate.

    3) If you use bot traffic, Google may feel that you're generating that traffic for your benefit, for example - showing traffic before selling the website or increasing impressions on your absence.

Bot traffic never contributes for a long time. I prefer to have the organic method, even it takes a little bit of time, but at least it provides me with real users and engagement. I have experienced with the website that delivers real users , if you are interested to know then can pm me.

Bot traffic usually isn't the best option for working on SEO or making the website look more appealing because of the high volume traffic, but if it's used for a short period only and to fulfill some specific purpose, it won't damage the site, but it's really important not to rely on it too often.

What is Bot Traffic ? - Bot traffic is that traffic which is not generated by humans; it is not natural traffic; it comes from automated bots from the internet, like an automated script or computer program. Bad bots do bad things. It will send fake and spam traffic to the website, and some examples of bot traffic are Click Fraud Bots, distributed denial of service bots, Web Scrapers, etc.

But some bots are good for SEO, like Search Engine Bots, SEO Crawlers, and Copyright Bots, for improving search engine results. It is difficult and these kinds of bots help optimize your website on search engines as well as when you update a page or content, the bot will crawl your website and take your website data to the search engine. This way, when our website is promoted on Google, we will get good traffic through this process.

According to me, you should try to stop bad traffic from your website.

I think its not a good option. Bots are programs made to mechanize different and frequently dreary tasks ─ valuable just as destructive ─ henceforth they are for the most part depicted as either great bots or terrible bots. A few investigations have shown that more than half of all web traffic is included bots
