facebook demanding phone number

Discussion in 'Facebook' started by dynostream, Jan 1, 2021.

I tried to create an anonymous facebook account using email address and password. all went fine, then a day later I tried to log in and found my account had been blocked because it violated facebook policy. I don't understand why but thats what they did. In going thought the unblock procedure facebook are asking for my mobile number. I don't mind giving my number but I wanted to know if facebook have the power to trace who I am with it ie: my name and address.

    Their site, their rules.

Same as your house, your rules.

If you can't understand why, then maybe you should go back to school.

I have no idea. I have no idea what country you are in; what the privacy laws are in your country. I have no idea who your phone provider is and what privacy policy they have for releasing that information etc etc etc

Facebook may or may not be able to track your address, but police will if you end up doing something illegal using that fb account.
That is the whole purpose behind asking phone number when suspicious activity is detected. So that tomorrow if something goes wrong, then fb can provide enough details to police if police asks them.

Plus, since you cannot use same phone number in 2 accounts, so it also limits creation of fake accounts to begin with.

I'm not doing anything illegal, and I don't break the law. however I've been reading how fb is disabling accounts on a whim all over the place. what puzzles me is if they disable the account and ask for phone number, why don't they just demand the number when you first sign up?

also - if I did give my phone number - what happens after that? does giving your phone number automatically re-enable your account? or are there extra steps you still have to go through afterwards? I don't want to give fb my phone number if it still leads me to a dead end.

I understand that you are not doing anything illegal, but other people must have abused the service. That is probably why fb made stricter rules.

After the phone number, you might be asked to upload an ID proof.
Name on this ID proof must match the name of the fb account holder.

It sounds like an awful lot of effort for a facebook account.

If you aren't happy with their TOS then don't use the site.
