I'm old enough (77) to remember when IBM was the giant in the computing world. Then all of a sudden some companies named Microsoft and Apple came along (and others). Lo and behold, IBM is no longer the giant in the room. The same thing can happen to Google in the search niche. I'm not guaranteeing it will, but it surely might, as history has proven for other companies that had near-monopolies. How many today remember MySpace? At one point (2005-2009) it was the largest social networking site in the world. Then Facebook zoomed past it and never looked back. MySpace fell into the shadows.

Every giant eventually gets replaced, whether it's manufacturing, technology, fashion or anything else.

Right now there's no contender to replace Google but give it 10 years and a tech break through and some upstart may very well take over.

Innovation is key. If Google, facebook and other large companies do not stop innovating (or re-inventing themselves, if you will) they will continue to dominate.

I think it's just a matter of time, absolutely everything has its beginning and the end, Google is not an exception.

I think google will always be the established search engine. I've used others and the results on the first page are always different and mainly unhelpful. I have heard that apple is going to create their own search engine but I don't think it will outperform.

Usually in a free market at some point it should fall out of favor but yeah lets see how it goes

Exactly! The history of free markets shows this pattern consistently. Buggy whips were a popular item a century-plus ago. Then along came a new innovation (cars) and voilá ... no more buggy whip factories very quickly.

And even more recently consider that Sears, "Monkey" Wards, J C Penney, Woolworths, Blockbuster, and numerous other major market shakers are either dead or dying. And who today even knows what a 78 or a 45 is?

It's just a matter of time. If innovation doesn't take down Google, it will be their greed.

I think Google will remain the technology king until the world will end, It is a to powerful corporation and is adapting every year to the market they are in.

Not likely. And yes, Google is in the "technology" field, but their primary focus is their search engine. When someone "builds a better mousetrap" (better search engine), the world will beat a path to that newer, better one. In my 77 years on this planet, I've lost count of how many times that has happened to once-leading companies.

It will be an interesting thing to follow anyway. Search engines Like "duck duck go" wont do it but maybe Bing or someone with more money(Elon Musk search engine) IDK :D
