    The domain should be indicative of a precise subject, and the whole website shall dedicated to a clear and unique subject.
    General knowledge is meaningless.

    You will be challenged to generate content for a general knowledge site faster than the big aggregators who have full time staff and networks across the world.

    If you have a particular set of skills that you are passionate about sharing you will do better than you ever could with a general site no matter how small the niche - and you'll get more pleasure out of the site too.

    It might not be skills, you might live in a tourist town that isn't well served by Tripadvisor etc. People might not be travelling much right now but they'll be creating wish lists for when the world is safer. Or you might have a job that takes you to quirky places or to meet quirky people (like Humans of New York) but you need to be bold enough to ask people for their story and if you can photograph them.

    Niche websites are much better, and will rank higher in Google search results because they are more specific to what people are searching for.

    Blogs such as backlinko, and neilpatel have great detailed advice on this subject.

    The website application must matter in discussing this question. Blogs are better at being niche sites. Most forums depend on a niche topic, and almost all usually have a general chat too. Directories are better served by being general in order to be all-inclusive and actually attract submissions. Static sites are good for educational topics. So you have to think what is it that you want your website to do first. General knowledge sites online serve as resources for many, keep that in mind also. I would include niche-specific and general knowledge web development in my portfolio. I hope this helps!

    Of course, it will be much easier to create unique and interesting content, with such sites you have a lot more options. If this is a niche site/blog, you will know your audience and your competitors better, you can concentrate your efforts better

    You should start from niche that are relevant now and what people are interested in. It can be a blog or website, doesn`t matter, but you need to think about your marketing strategy for sure
