    It's common sense.
A combination of people actually clicking to view your videos, people who spend longer viewing your video, engagement via likes and comments, and people subscribing to your channel.

People spend too much time trying to figure out the ranking system rather than on good engaging relevant content.

Here are some KPI's of all successful channels:

    - Good quality video and sound. Use of lighting kits to light the subject. Use of dSLR or Mirror less cameras or higher quality cameras that shoot 4k or higher definition. Use of appropriate lens for bokeh (blurred background) effect. Use settings on camera to white balance and adjust to scene. Use of external microphone to capture higher quality audio output. Color correction/enhancement via post video editing system (ie. Adobe Premiere).

    - Use of Video Editing system to add simple cuts/transitions, arrange scenes, add captions and/or "lower thirds", color correct, use room silence when needed etc.

    - Engaging content. Content that people want to see that is shot in an engaging way. That may mean many things...but if I am watching YOU talk about cars I would be more interested in your video if you were interesting, charismatic and have an actual personality. If you just sit there with a blank face and monotone voice for 10 minutes I am checked out and gone!

    - Consistent relevant content. Post regularly and post with a purpose. Make sure your videos fall within the theme of your channel. If it doesn't move it to another channel or do not post.

    - Catchy relevant headlines and descriptions. Descriptions should provide detail and relevant keywords to find your video. Do NOT key word stuff. Make sure your descriptions read in plain english. Don't just write non-sense to squeeze in keywords.

    - Market on social media platforms (twitter, instagram, facebook etc). Build your following on other social platforms too.

    - In your videos ask to subscribe. Give a reason to subscribe. In your description post links to similar or relevant videos on your channel.

I have never came across a channel that didn't have some sort of successful following that didn't do all of the above. If you aren't doing any of the above then stop trying to figure out how you can take advantage of the algorithm of the ranking system. I think you are focusing on the wrong thing.

The same way you where going to do keyword research for an article you can do it for videos. Put the keywords in the description and promote it.

Title and description match, that is given.
Then subscribers, then views, then duration, all of those higher the better.

Keyword query match with your title, description and tags. Get lots of views, likes, and shares. Your goal is syndication and backlinks to your videos. So be active on social media with it, and promote your channel and videos on every site that you market on. The more people you get to your channel and subscribers you get, the more views you'll get, the more comments you'll get, and the more your Youtube search rankings will increase. And constantly produce more videos everyday if possible.

I would not get too caught up in just views. I believe years ago views had more value but Youtube has adjusted their algorithm. Minutes watched and engagement matters more than views. I've noticed a few channels with a lot of views because they are good at getting clicks on their thumbnails but the bounce rate is pretty high with little engagement and only a few subscribers.

All kinds of things contribute. How long people watch your video before leaving. How many people click the “thumbs up” like button. How many people subscribe on that video page. Your keyword tags. Your video title. The length of your video.

Write a unique description for each of your videos. Aim for at least 200 words. Use synonym keywords throughout your description. For example, if your keywords are How to Rank YouTube Videos, synonym keywords would be How to rank YouTube videos in Google, Ranking videos in search engines, Yahoo video rank, etc.

You can make your YouTube videos engaging by keeping in mind these few things:
    - Make engaging and relevant content for all your targeted audiences
    - Improve the audio, sound and editing quality of your video to grab the attention of viewers
    - Understand a topic and its demand before you decide to make a video for it
    - Observe the feedback towards some of the initial videos to better understand your audiences
