Star Trek - Picard

    Hi,

I am seeing ads for the above new show to be aired beginning 1/23 on CBS All Access. I do not get CBS All Access, but I expect that, eventually, the show will air in reruns on another, free channel. Anyway, I always thought that Picard was the absolute BEST Star Trek captain and I am betting that this will be a great TV show.

Would like to hear your thoughts as to whether you agree that Picard was the best captain and/or if you have CBS All Access how the show is once it launches.

He is a great actor. I always enjoy watching him as Picard. It will be different this time since he's almost 80. Not sure how believable it will be. The real kick-ass captain has always been Benjamin Sisko. DS9 is great to watch up until Jadzia Dax gets killed. They should not have let her go from the show.

Patrick Stewart has remained quite active since Star Trek and in recent TV commercials (he shills for a hard cider company or something) he still looks pretty good. I suspect, however, that in this show he will be an admiral or commander of the fleet or something and he will be surrounded by a bunch of young bucks that he mentors but stays clear of any action. He kind of did that, anyway, on the TV show.

I liked DS9 and it was running last night on some obscure cable channel; but the wife protested, so I could not watch more than 5 minutes of it.

Do you plan to watch it (i.e., do you have CBS All Access?)

Cool, would love to hear what you think of it, etc., after the first show!

It's been a while and my memory is fuzzy. But wasn't Picard insane in one of the later movies?

Or maybe dying from old age or some such?

As I recall he and Beverly Crusher were divorced at that time.

Yeah, it's where he was going from one time frame to another. Back and forth. It's really a powerful episode.

It will be a big mistake if they make him to be old and feeble or insane or in any way limited in this new series. People will be tuning in to see him as they remember him to be in command, sharp as ever, etc.

Hmmmm. As I recall I did say I don't need no stinking adult diapers.

But memory being what it is...

They should've launched it on Netflix. I wonder what % of people have CBS All Access...

I think I've heard of All Access but I've never looked at it as a potential addition.

It seems like it will mostly be about pushing a far leftist political message rather than making a decent program. I wouldn't expect too much.

I believe that it will add $6/month to your cable bill (might be separate, of course.) Netflix would have been a much better option in terms of viewership. One person at work said that this show would cause him to buy CBS All Access, but he is the only person that has told me this. I am not willing to encourage CBS (or any other broadcaster) by going along with their fee, despite my strong desire to see the series.

So, the first episode has been out now for a few days and CBS has decided to livestream it on Youtube. I may try to catch it this weekend or next week. Anyone see it yet?
