I am willing to start a leather business, i heard that manufacturing & selling of leather products is a very profitable business. Does anyone here have any knowledge about manufacturing or selling leather?
Take some animal skin, rub with salt and oils to remove moisture, hang to dry, repeat after a few days. Then sell in a shop. Not sure if anyone will buy this though... You can't just wake up one day and decide to start manufacturing leather...
Storing food (chicken) in raw leather. If he wants to give life to chicken, he'd need more than just leather...
You want to start a leather business - doing what? Producing leather turning leather into actual products selling leather selling leather products - shoes? clothes? handbags? saddles? BDSM stuff? making and selling tools for other leather businesses to use? What is your background that led you to think you could be successful in the leather industry?
I meant for dead chicken Because dead chicken will not scream when stored in rubbed skin Manufacturing and selling Leather Jackets. Actually, I saw my neighbor who was in the same business, and he made good money. I know that starting a new business is not easy, but I gathered a lot of knowledge to start this business.
Hello, I think if you collect the leather by low rate and complete processing before sale then will able to many profit.
@Jorge2local If you have a neighbour friend who is in the same business, then he could certainly give you more information than anyone else on this forum...
@Jorge2local Tell your neighbour that you don't want to setup in his market area, that you want to setup in some other county. But from the looks of it, I am thinking that he is simply buying leather sheets from a wholesale dealer, making jackets out of it, and then supplying to another wholesale dealer or to the same one for further selling. Also, I am not 100% sure of it, but with animal rights and stuff, leather might go out of fashion in a decade or so may be... Like how mink coats went out...
Sometimes competition is good, trust me! @Jorge2local and @JEET You can develop your business much better when you see similar products around the corner. You just have to love what you do.
What i heard, from China we hardly get products made of genuine leather, most of their leather products are 1st copy
@Todman2112 I understand competition is good, Jorge also does. Problem is how do we convince his neighbour that competition is good...
Absolutely true, who believes that we are not going to capture its market. Infact if you @Todman2112 are doing any business so you will not share your market secrets with competitors. Competition is good only because it forces us to improve quality, but somehow it also reduce our profit margin.
The truth is if I needed a leather jacket I'd visit one of the retailers at the mall. If I needed wholesale leather skins, I'd buy them on alibaba. The competition is brutal. You should probably think long and hard before getting into this business.
Obviously this business is specifically for those customers who buy from online stores. Alibaba is influenced by Chinese manufacturers, most of which sell rexine leather instead of original leather
@Jorge2local I am not doing a local business, but I have friends who are into this, and they did it like I said. Obviously that not all local businesses are genuine now days especially what comes from China. BUT - make your research good, and trust me that in that maze you will find a good manufacturer. Look for quality not quantity. It can be a different business at the end, not the one pointed here!
What type of leather do you want to sell? I just did a google search and I got: Leather jacket Leather pants ect.. What type of people are you going to target? Men? women? leather is too general. Need to be more specific.
