Shared hosting is type of hosting and wordpress is a type of application which can be hosted in any kind of hosting including shared hosting.
If someone says wordpress hosting it means that it will be wordpress compatible but still it will be share hosting only.

As someone who has owned a small shared host (7 servers and hundreds of clients), I learn toward this being a marketing tactic. You soon realise, offering shared hosting, that WordPress sites make up most of your clients. You optimise your servers for that (increased caching, using Nginx, Litespeed etc.).

The cost of WordPress hosting is $5+ a month. I personally feel that this is only worth it if you really feel like you'll benefit from the expertise of the host itself. That cancbe quite valuable. Otherwise this is money better spent on a prepaid CDN which will certainly make your site faster.

Shared hosting is just a type of hosting plan where your site “shares” resources with other sites on the same server. Managed WordPress hosting is a set of added services and performance tweaks that sits on top of regular hosting

From my point of view the difference between Wordpress and shared hosting is that In wordpress provides blogs and also provides high level security that it will protect against wordpress specific attacks wordpress provide you very fast speed as loading speeds will increase and have team support whenever their is any issue they can support you and their is up to date software is available also you can update on regular basis it take less time to update.
In Shared hosting provides serves pages to multiple website as many companies provide many shared hosting but it is not sufficient for web sites with high traffic will effect the website and increase the bounce rate so to run those site we need dedicated web server so it can manage properly to run site so If you are using shared hosting is less expensive it is user friendly and security have issue and it is not secure as it is used only for those who have low volume traffic
