Who is still wearing watches after the mobile phone era?

I used to wear a watch a decade ago. But after mobile phones are introduced some 10 yrs ago in our country, I never gave it a second thought to wear any. What’s your experience?

I wear a fitbit, used to have a nice Garmin but it was lost on a dive trip. I'd never wear a watch that didn't have some tech built in. My husband does even though he carries 2 phones at all times. Old habits die hard for some.

Watches are fashion statement rather than necessity now a days. My wife wants me to wear one when I go to work but I am simple guy. The best use of a wrist watch I can think of now a days is you can track time while you are on a bike. Getting your phone out of the pocket while ridding a bike isn't safe if you know what I mean.

Watches have ALWAYS been a fashion statement ever since they were invented some 500 years ago. They have NEVER been a NECESSITY.

:) I think I heard this quote from the movie Payback starring Mel Gibson. "Old habits die hard, I guess. If you don't kick them, they kick you."

    Can't agree more.

So how were the people in the past living? A watch is a necessity to do everything in my opinion.

I recently got into a twitter squabble over "investing" in high-end watches. I was mocked for being naive. If they can make second watches worth spending thousands on then that's awesome but I won't be spending my money on them with the hope they appreciate in value.
They worked according to the sun's position in the sky, the church bell ringing, the town clock, the call to prayer.

A "necessity to do everything" might be overstating it.

Put me down for the "old habits die hard" group, though to a lesser extent than it could be. Now, for many decades prior to the smartphone, I wore a watch nonstop, except when sleeping at night. I had a nice, dress watch for business and any dress up social affairs and I had a casual watch for all other times. I will also stipulate that I need to know what time it is at all times. I am much more relaxed that way as opposed to wondering what time it is. These days, however, I only wear the dress watch for business and appropriate social events. The casual watch lies in dis-use. I now just rely on my phone whenever I am doing casual things or at home. Half-adapted, I suppose. :)

If watches were a NECESSITY, humanity would have ceased to exist THOUSANDS of years BEFORE the FIRST watch was ever invented.

If by necessity we mean something we can't survive without, then yes watches are not necessities. But they are vital in our day to day activities. If I don't have a watch I could be late for work many days and get fired! I usually set alarm on my mobile specially on Sundays because I take a nap in mid day. I can't imagine the chaos I will create @ my workplace if I am late few minutes.

Time management is a necessity in our modern worlds but there are many ways to do that. We are surrounded by gadgets that will tell us the time... phones, microwaves, cars, radios (both the device and the service), computers.

They're more of a fashion statement then used for their functionality.

I love watches! It servers as a piece of jewelry for a man. A good watch is like a bracelet but it doesn't attract too much attention. A good wrist watch (not a cheap one) makes me feel good. A watch can be a memory, it can remind you of something.
besides this looking at my phone to check time makes me nervous. Electronics adds stress in my life
Also it easier to look at a watch if you are in rush compared to a phone. Sometimes it is needed when you have a lot of meetings or scheduled activities

I thought that was true for me too. I started wearing a watch at around 10 years of age. I used to have these cool Russian mechanical watches. They weren't expensive, but I believe some of them were rare and I wouldn't be surprised if they are sought after today. Too bad I didn't keep them. Anyway, when I got my first smart cell phone, the watch naturally lost its appeal. After all those years - boom! I didn't care if I had my watch on. Just take it off and feel the freedom.

Actually gave up on normal watches for health reasons, now I constantly wear one, but it's a smartwatch that monitors my heart rate. https://popular.reviews/blood-pressure-smartwatch/#1_MorePro_Waterproof_Fitness_Tracker
