How to trace a private IP Address location?

Query the APNIC Who is Database, you cannot do anything with an IP address. All you can do is find the basic geographical location and the ISP details of the IP address through any IP lookup sites like IP-Details.com.

 

This topic, although old, but quite relevant, so I want to share my knowledge and hear additions. The new method finds the target computer in three stages. In the first stage, the time required to pass a data packet to the target is measured and converted to a distance-a common technique in geolocation-it narrows the possible location of the target to an area of about 200 km. Then packets are sent to known reference servers (with Google Maps) located in this area to determine which routes they are on. When the host and the target host are behind one router, researchers can compare how much the packet passes from the router to each of the hosts; this time difference, transformed into an approximate difference in distance, narrows the search area even further. Finally, they search this search for reference on a more detailed level: once again comparing time delays, they determine which of the reference servers is closest to the target . Of course, the result can not be perfectly accurate, but it's much better than trying to determine the place by simply recalculating the delay from the first stage into the distance; and better than the best of the existing methods based on the IP address. On average, their method gives a spread of 690 meters, and in the best reaches 100 meters - enough to locate the target computer within a few streets.

 

I have an email and found a related ip adress 73.2019.09.15.13.28.44 At least this was one of the nmbs in the email header.so I tried tracing it and s totally different ip nmb shows up in the results but it appears to be in the very near geolocation location as I would have most suspected. What would this mean?

Determine its type. There are two types of IP addresses - public and private. Public IPs are assigned by an ISP (Internet Service Provider) while Private IPs are assigned by routers on-premise within your home or business network. Private IPs don’t have a fixed physical location and instead rely on the router that assigns them, so you need to identify the specific router in order to locate its physical location.
The next step is to run an online traceroute scan for your private IP address, which will provide you with hop-by-hop results along the route from your computer to the destination server or website. This means all devices connected between you and the destination server/website will be included in this scan including different routers connected at each hop across various ISPs that carry data packets from source-to-destination of your trace route activity. By doing this, you can discover where exactly each stage during this process occurs, thus determining where certain hops originate from which will give further insight into where requests originated from before reaching their final destination server/website or whether they routed through any proxies along their way towards initial request fulfillment stage leading towards eventual response back again onto yours system requesting it initially .

Another method includes utilizing packet sniffing tools such as Wireshark to monitor incoming traffic directed at your computer by analyzing packets exchanged between systems including potential information related directly towards any known origins associated with remote computers accessed via specific ports being monitored throughout entire communication session initiated from these.
