Do google rankings get affected when you switch server?

Do google rankings get affected when you switch server?

I recently moved from shared hosting to VPS, and I think traffic has reduced little bit since then.
Is this normal, when you switch server, google will reduce your ranking?
If yes, how long does it take to retain original rankings?

Also, what is the basic road map of good SEO these days? Back links needed, on-page SEO, etc.
    Thanks

That was my experience. It went back to where it used to be.

You should probably be patient for about 2-3 weeks.

Same situation here as well, 50% or more lost, barely ranking for anything now. Few new sales this month, only existing ones renewing. I guess all we can do is wait.

I've been doing SEO for 15 years and have migrated thousands of sites. If it's done properly there will be 0 impact on SEO...

If you need to 301 old pages to new URLs, you may temporarily notice a small blip in traffic for a few days.

But we're talking about server -> server here, no changes -- 0 impact on SEO 100% for sure.

If Servers are changed, then for a time-being the traffic may get affected. Wait for some days, then if the problem persist it would be abnormal.

@electriX621 only the website is moved to new server. All pages, URLS etc are the same. Nothing changed at that end. The site is a https site, so may be IP of server changed in certificate (if that is included, not sure if it is)
I am receiving a lot less traffic from google now.

In what stats? Doesn't sound like you're using Analytics, or perhaps your new host uses Cloudflare and most of your traffic was BS.

It shouldn't have any negative impact just allow things to settle down. Is the new server based in the same country?

The server change has ZERO impact in Google ranks and traffic in itself. If you do mistakes in doing smooth transition then the server or Google is not the culprit. Server change is such a straightforward and simple thing to do. All you need to do is just TWO things--

    (1) COPY (just copy and NOT CUT) your whole website (as is) from the old server (all files and everything) and paste it into the new server. Make sure, your website is working perfectly on the new server.
    (2) While keeping your website on BOTH servers (old and new), change your DNS.

    That's it.

    I am viewing AW stats.
It shows how much traffic came from which search engine. Also, no cloud flair etc. Its a VPS.
