Illustrator is best because illustrator create vector based graphics which is really important for a logo design.

Before I use Photoshop, Illustrator and CorelDraw
    Now,
    I use EximiousSoft Logo Designer
It has 200+ logo templates, 5000+ symbols and more pre-designed gradient styles are preseted with high quality. Shapes and texts can be filled or stroken with solid color, gradient colors, images and textures much smoothly. Supports shadow, Refection, Glow, 3D bevel etc. effects.

What I love is that it helps to can create any shape graphics by fully vector-based drawing tools

You may find the detailed information here: https://www.eximioussoft.com/logo-designer.htm

Highly depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you want to create the logo as it has to be (vector), you should go with Illustrator. But on the other hand, if it is for a small web project that is not so important, and you don't expect it to become really famous (thus you won't need to advertise in high resolution or to give it journalists), and you are good with Photoshop, go with it.

I would give my vote to Canva - easy to use. Plenty of free templates, graphics, great range of fonts - these resources make for a professional end result. Of course, some graphics, etc are monetised but hey they are cheap.

For logo I strictly use Illustrator, the software allows me to create a scalable logo that can be reproduced on merchandise, posters or billboards without losing any of the quality. It's always pixel perfect.

Hi buddy, I suggest, don't look for free logo designs software, they will not produce good quality. Expert always uses photoshop or illustrator to create a masterpiece. Excel your skills in this software and design your imaginations. I wish you all the best. If you need any help regarding this, do let me know.

With newer versions, both Illustrator and CorelDraw support automatic vector-tracing of an image which helps me make a logo much faster than if I did have to draw vectors manually. I am not sure if the free vector graphics software support tracing.
