    Hello

I remember 6-7 years back, forums used to be a big thing and we used to do a lot of stuff on forums. From business to information to chat, etc.. but I don't see this anymore.. Its like forums have gone down the hill.
What are your views on that?

People seem to be spending more time on Facebook and Twitter than previously, which probably explains the gradual decline of forums like DP.

Forums are dead because forum links don't consider as a quality link nowadays and some years before forums were more active because of spammy techniques of link building.
And, those who really want to know about something or want to answer about something, use the forum nowadays too but those who used forums just for link building not using it.

Those users never contributed anything to any forum anyway, that's not why this forum is dying on it's arse, it's because most of the decent knowledgable members have got so fed up with trawling though the low quality garbage that gets posted on a daily basis that they've all fucked off, can't blame 'em.

Some of it might be where people have moved over to using "question and answer" type sites, like stackoverflow for example

Forums aren't dead I still participate on popular forums. The landscape is just different now with social media. People likely spend less time on forums but they still serve a purpose.

Some are active than ever but I don't see much activity on many that were very active a few years ago. Much because of social media.

I think the IT industry grew at a very fast pace, people needing Web solutions got them from local sources rather than how previously they used DP or other forums for getting jobs done.

Oh man, I can remember when the forums was ALIVE! I ran a successful forum myself, with cms integration and whatnot. It's becoming nostalgic, I admit. One of few reasons that the forums are either dying or dead is because everybody now uses Facebook and the groups on Facebook to exchange information relating to a certain topics that we would do on this forum. Facebook now officially dominates the internet along with Twitter, Google and Instagram - now everything else doesn't matter. I am myself inactive user, I used to be very active back then and I haven't been using this forum in several months as I just logged in here for the first time in several months. It's a bit saddening, really.

This place ate itself when it got rid of the itrader function. As an existential matter, I frankly hated it in the first place because I had a bunch of fake ones.

That said, there is a direct correlation to that and the mass exodus.

Video games forums are dead too. Hardly anyone posts on them. Even when users who do post something, they are still just not worth a toss either way.

The reason I just joined here is because all the other internet marketing forums I am already in have imploded horribly. This one is currently looking the most 'genuinely' active. Times change, unfortunately.

Forums are still alive but just for small communities with particular interests

I come back every now and again to digitalpoint. Yes, I agree the activity here has dwindled and there are some loyalist still posting interesting topics and following up with each other. There is a community here. I see this place is in itself a social site but not as active as the big ones out there. Well, to each his own playground. Some prefer to sit around on the swings and take in the cool breeze and casual chit chats, while others prefer the more vibrant fast paced fb, insta and twitter. Just my 2 cents. Have a good day all!

Here one can get ones posts deleted for the crime of being "off topic". Good move by the mods for helping to keep this site alive. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to post on here anymore?

Social media seems to have "replaced" a lot of forums.

I agree with your opinion. Forums are mostly abandoned, and only a few are still popular. People are now using social media sites, and they really are a more interesting solution. The Internet has been evolving just like other things.
