For a single post last week, I received two of each: two reds and two greens, for the same post.

What does that suggest to you?

To me it says, no matter what you post, someone somewhere is gonna love it and someone else is gonna hate it...

What I like about the reputation systme is the comments. Good and bad ones. Someone has an opinion, he can give it to you without PMing or saying something publically that can escalate into an argument involving more parties than necessary.

What you say has some merit, but the last two negatives I've had had no comment and no "signature". That I think is totally unfair.

I'd like to see name stamped feedback as well. Plus minimum feedback character count. I think it's a good system but only if you can actually learn from it. Empty pos/neg rep is useless.

I would like to see it banned because it is hurting the forum, if users knew all the time who was sending bad rep. they would just find a way to send it back.

I think that it is a big negative on this forum and is and has been abused both ways, giving positive and negative rep., from what I see it is a disaster.

On this forum it's just entertaining and far from a disaster IMO. Does it really effect people, I doubt it. If you you don't like it just ignore it.

The rep system is probably the biggest non webmaster topic and has spawned endless entertaining threads.

People love to complain about it and it keeps things interesting.

Take it or leave it IMO but to say its a disaster is a bit dramatic.

If there was some criteria for the rep system to make it meaningful, I could go along with the pollyannas. However, it appears to offer little meaningful insight. It's just a game played by a few members and it does have the power to upset people. My 2 cents...

Now see, I caught someone giving me a near empty red for my post above (Its actually real easy to tell if you know what to look for) but I won't give them one back.

    Just a wink and a smile ;) :D

So don't keep us in suspenders. :) Tell us how to find out who left the "no comment, no signature" REDS.

It requires checking your CP shortly after you got it (read being on DP 24/7). Click the post link and see who's active. Check their profile and it will say 'Leaving Post Feedback' or similar and they're busted...

At least that's how I got Fryman once.

Yes but that just tells you the person is leaving rep. Not that he or she is leaving it for you. I've made that mistake before myself when someone hit me, and at least one of the times I was accused of leaving negative rep I had actually been leaving positive rep for a different member.

With the timestamps you can make a very well informed guess... But yeah, you can't know for 100% but close enough.

I can tell you what I see happening, I can see members abusing the system and it is a form of members controlling the forum as the "good old boys" club can gang up on an outspoken member that really is not afraid to speak his mind. It happened to me here before and it is happening right now.

That is exactly what is developing here with this reputation system and that is what is going to ruin this forum and hurt it's growth, the core group of members that vote for each other continually and then decide to exclude a contributor because of a perceived threat that is in the minds of some here.

    yfs1, ;) :D

I left a bunch of reps both red and green to illustrate the inanity of it all. If I upset anyone with the reds, please read Anthony's post above... again.

yer it is. But at the end of the day people are starving in Africa, America is run by a complete wanker, and people out there are homeless, addicted to drugs and jobless. I think we here at DP can JUST about cope with a few negative reps.
