I'm Margo. I'm here because I want to keep up with happenings that may not make the trade media, and have a place to ask for help & share my knowledge. I specialize in marketing in startups, it makes me a bit of a wanderer but it's great to help get cool products and ideas off the ground.

Otherwise I like hiking, photography and wearable fashion (no, this does not include crazy Lady Gaga shoes.)

Welcome to the forum Margo. As a specialist what is the most important thing you would tell someone who is considering a startup to help her/him to take the first step?

That depends on if you are starting the startup or working at a startup.

For founders, the most important tips are: research your proposed product/service thoroughly (there's a lot of jump on the bandwagon going on), have a solid business plan which includes how you will keep going before you make a profit - think in years, and, make it something you love. There's so much work in founding a startup that if you are not in love with your idea you will run out of steam.

Good advise. I've started a number of businesses over the years. Some I still manage, some I found I didn't have the heart to continue with. I believe that most people who fail do so because they don't have enough passion for what they're doing to keep working at it until it works for them.

One thing my experiences taught me is that persistence is a major key.
