What's sort of funny is that my affiliate page is #1 in the Yahoo serps (organic) for iPod cases

Personally, I don't think my page *should* be there. A paragraph of content, affiliate links & Adsense. Granted a visitor will be directed to quality sources if they click thru....but there are much more relevant pages that should be displayed ahead of mine.

I'm surprised I've been at #1 as long as I have.

BTW, just wanted to thank you quickly for the great work you do at the seo roundtable. It's my number 1 read every morning.

That's totally wild. I like it better than the MSN approach.

By leaving the slider at its default mid-position, I'm #1. (have been for about 5 months). But, if I move it in either direction, I fall in position.

Therefore, I hope it never gets out of beta

I get much the same: mid-position = #3; either left or right - nowhere

Now, if can just get Yahoo to Index more than just my Home Page and Links page! On that subject, Minstrel gave me some good advice: include a text-based site map (done) and add to content daily (overdue). More content and maybe a Glossary, going up this w/e to see if that helps Slurp take bigger gulps. Site map alone hasn't yet prompted a full Index, despite daily Slurp visits.

Don't want to threadjack here so, if you have the time and inclination, PM me please if you have any other Yahoo Index-prompting ideas.

 

I am thinking that this along with the sliders on MSN point to the idea that users will be in more control of the algorithm used to search in the future.

Looking great, it's very easy to sort the results from shopping to research..
This gives a new perspective the search engine results.

I'm nowhere to be found in the top results, but I like to look/feel of it.

 

Doesn't surprise me one bit. If someone prioritizes on shopping, they don't really care if it is an affiliate page or not as long as it features the product they are looking for.

 

That page doesn't place # 1 if you slide the bar over to shopping. It's only #1 if you go to regular old Yahoo. When you slide all the way over to shopping my page drops out of the first 10 (I haven't dug any deeper than that).

It's an interesting concept.

 

Heh, it'll be an awesome concept when they get it working. At the moment the results seem totally whacked. Checking for my site that has no shopping related anything whatsoever and lots of dev-related, techie, research oriented stuff - comes up like #8 with the slider in the middle but falls off to either side - yet the slider next to my site seems to indicate they think it's a research site.

Maybe there's other invisible factors so it's not as straightforward...

It's an awesome idea though. I hope they can make it work well.

 

I show similar with 2 of our sites - in the middle they are top like on normal yahoo. Move the slider either way and they start dropping. They both are shopping sites.

 

If they themselves don't get it right, someone else will build upon it. Everyone has different priorities when they search.

 

IMO they should add a vertical slider representing time. I often search for stuff and get relevant stuff first, but not relevant due to the date is was written. So they will have to lof the first date their crawler came across the document and allow you to limit by time scale.
