creating a wp theme based on graphics

How difficult is it to create a wp theme based on specific graphics and psd's, to "cut" it into a theme? Trying to figure how much effort that is in terms of hours or price usually? thanks

 

It depends on how much education you have in Web design technologies and how much you know about creating WP themes.
I don't know what you mean by 'cut it into a theme'. Adobe psd files are not used in Web pages, WP or other.
Web design and development is a profession. It takes years to learn how to do it well.

WordPress uses server side technology (php) and database intercommunication as well as client side (user browser) technologies.
You can create fully custom themes in WordPress. You can make a WordPress site look any way you want limited only by Web technologies. That means you can put whatever graphics (that are Web compatible) into whatever pages you want. But - you have to know how.

We generally estimate about 25 hours to create a 6 page static WordPress site. That would exclude graphics creation and copywriting.
Most of that time goes into design of the site, not the programming.

 

@SoftLink , and if there is already a clear design structure/concept available and all the graphics are ready, what do you generally estimate as the time to create a wp theme for an experienced designer?

 

I'd have to see the "clear design structure/concept" before I could answer that.
Do you have something along the lines of a specification that you can show me?

 

To ballpark it I would guess a few thousand. (If you're actually requesting a custom theme to be developed). Typically one would search thru the themes, and find one which closely resembles the look you're going for. Maybe even hiring someone to customize it more to your needs. Sometimes the themes author offers customization for fairly cheap. Could be a better option as they tend to know the internals of the themes coding & do's & don'ts

 

If you have the designs in layered PSD a professional coder will convert these into a wordpress website for about £250 - £300

 

Well you have to be pretty good in PHP and CSS in order to build a quality wp theme, it is not only the design that matters..
