In terms of legality, we would not have to respond to US court order at all.
The problem is it is US. They can say that (for example) one of the websites owner is a terrorist and by hiding information we support terrorism.
Then all banks will close our accounts, PayPal and Payoneer accounts will get closed too. They really do not need any legal process to do that... And for us that would mean immediate end of business.

 

i understand your point..but its not the US...in the pirate cases these are private companies behind a court order...there is a lot broken in the US and out of hands but label a piracy case as terrorism is not even possible in the US.

im pretty much sure handing out "private data" to an outside country and private companies without an court order form a EU or a court in your country is breaking data protection law in your country and/or the EU.

the content industry is doin pretty much the same as google does..using the monopol to manipulate everything to fit their imaginations.
if you dont fight it at one point it will have also an negativ impact on your business because porn/torrent sites are almost all have "piracy" problems.

 

@tomksoft please contact a lawyer to clear this up for us as this is very worrying, any plans to support BTC soon? it seems to be the safest option right now

 

Lawyers won't help. Legal case will take years during which we will have no PayPal or bank accounts. I guess I do not need to explain what it means for us. Also not sure if you know, but even if they go to press and some reputed websites mention that we do not comply with court orders, banks will close our accounts.

There is no data protection law in our country and we are not based in EU.

I do not like it either, but at this stage do not think we can do much. Luckily, in all these years I have been managing PopAds, it is first time for such things happen.

i personally think handing out data based on a court ruling from a country you are not in is completely wrong. Closing accounts to protect your company seems fair to me. but as you said it was the first time i hope you re-consider your opinion if something like that happens again.

its always first time till it becomes common practice. trust me other companies will jump on that train.

We are looking into crypto currency payouts, but in this case it wouldn't change much. Unless we go crypto only, we have to respect court orders.

I have more experience with banks than I would like to have, we had many bank accounts closed, had lots of headaches.
I also learnt quite well how bank works during my experiences. One time I had huge issues with bank because they were searching on Google for popads and found these "How to remove popads virus" pages (which are created automatically in scheme of "how to remove X virus"). That got our account nearly closed.
So to answer your question - no, it is not fear, it is experience. Go for example and read about thing called World Check. It is a service that all the banks in the world use. If someone writes article that PopAds ignored court order etc. and is support online piracy, that goes into World Check and then they notify all the bank.
If we want to open any new bank account, first thing they will do is they will check in World Check.

For me, being able to provide service to tens of thousands of publishers is more important than protecting few (who probably got into issues for not responding to DMCA, not responding to court hearings etc.).

 

@cromiu It is much harder to trace you, also unless you make shitload of money they won't bother and remember that they can't "freeze" your wallet
@tomksoft , The advantage here when we withdraw to bitcoin is that the court can't freeze our wallet, unlike PayPal and Payoneer they would be glad to do it
Is crypto currency will be applied soon? if not, is there a chance for a "custom" withdrawal, like allowing the withdraw to btc but for some extra fees

 

Crypto currency withdrawals are being looked into, but it won't happen soon(like within a week or two). Unfortunately, another problem is that banks do not like sending big money to crypto exchanges. When you exchange 1k or 5k usd then there is no problem, but doing 500k will be a different story.
But it is being looked into for sure, as a lot of people are asking for that.
There is no way for a "custom withdrawal", sorry. I personal do not believe in crypto currencies and I do not hold any of them(yes, I MIGHT be wrong, no need to tell me ).

 

Mr tomksoft can you please tell why your ads are opening in a new tab for my content and displaying your content in my tab please fix this this was never a issue before its messing up my sites structure.

 

Can't you use some big exchanger for that? I'm sure that some partners will be ready even to cover the fees.

It says i have received 2000 hits, but i have received only 200 actual hits. (Google analytics report)

Has anyone experienced problems with the pop tag popping on 3rd party site? The original Url is the registered, and people embed our player with pop in and it doesn't pop from there domain. Any the same?
