    Hi,

I was wondering while doing a search on google about the directory submission to my website but I cannot find the truth and work one.

    - Can you help me to give a name which one is working for you for both and paid service?
    - How long it take to index my like after submit?

    Thanks

The era when any directory was good, just to get another link, is dead. You have to be very picky when you choose to submit your website to directories. The whole idea is very straightforward. Matt Cutts, announced some time ago that Google gives no credit to spam directories (link to the Youtube video).

    What's a SPAM directory?

    1. No editorial discretion whatsoever (aka. anyone can get in, no matter the quality of the suggested resource)
    2. The owner allows any SPAM title (e.g. Best SEO Company while the actual official title is ABC Media)
    3. Spammy descriptions (We are the best, the leading company... - who's the real leading company if you have 50 leading companies listed??? - ).

A directory's age, number of backlinks and so on is not important. But what does matter the most? Its Page Rank? Domain Authority? Number of backlinks? The age of the domain? How many people tweeted or shared on Facebook that specific web directory? (we all know how easily manipulated these metrics are.) We can conclude easily, knowing how Google sees spam web directories and their content/links, that it is a waste of time and money to invest in submitting websites to directories advertising themselves as "Submit now, online since 1998" and when you start surfing its content, you see nothing but spam.

So I strongly recommend surfing a web directory a bit before hitting the "Add You Site" button. Check out if they have any kind of editorial discretion and read their guidelines. Check out if there are any manually, hand-picked websites added (this is a good indicator about how much the web directory owner cares about the quality of his website. Apple or Dell won't submit their website to directories, that's for sure). The best web directories are those that'll open your website and include it only if you provide a valuable resource.

The best web directories are those that will correct your listing's title and/or modify the description in order to be an objective one. The best directories are the ones that will move your listing into your most relevant niche category.

Don't think about a review fee that is a guaranteed inclusion fee. You have no idea how much money and effort a good directory can swallow. By this I refer mainly to the editors, their time, technical issues, improvements, marketing and on. So, you're paying for someone to open your website, analyze it and decide if it's worth to be listed or not. In most cases, you'll get a response from the directory owner or one of the editors with the rejection reason and what should you do to improve your website. Usually, you get a refund if your website is rejected, so no worries here.

Based on my and other specialist's research, as well as according to a former DMOZ meta (http://www.webdirectoryreviews.org/top/) these would be the last few directories you can rely on:

    • BOTW ($149.95 per year or $299.95 one-time) - I can't link to them because their page is offline at the moment and DP won't allow me to post my writing.

Yahoo's directory no longer exists, unfortunately.

    You're welcome.

you see... it's sad what happened in the last few years. It was enough two or three "SEO specialists" (which are charging their clients anyway for directory suggestions than they charge them again to remove those links...) to say "OMG it's not worth submitting websites to directories anymore. period.". Now, if you really are a specialist, you have to come with some arguments, and i don't say this because I own a quite decent directory, but because this is how things should go especially if you're a "specialist". :)

As I said earlier, Matt Cutts himself stated back in 2011 that Google give credits to quality web directories, to the ones that apply a high editorial discretion and to the ones the serve the primary purpose of a directory: a resource center.

When the line between "I'll list everything if you pay me $10 cu;z' I have a fake PR7 directory" and "I'll list what I consider valuable to my users" is crossed, there's the problem.

So, you, as a webmaster decide, based on a few criteria, if it worth it or not. Don't look for outdated lists (once again, http://www.webdirectoryreviews.org/top/ is the only objective evaluator we have at the moment), but keep in mind that being listed among trash won't help you at all.

based on my own research i think you just advertise your network.

shameless advertising, false information, etc. your list of "last" directories is ridiculous and nobody should be fooled by it.

I do not contest your own research. But we neet arguments, facts, use our logic and think a bit.

I work in the marketing industry for over 11 years. I gone throu all major Google updates.

Yes, web directories are useless. But which one? Please... dont't tell that you never dreamed of a DMOZ listing. There a tons of people seeing improvement of some extent to their websites.

And, if you seach for the official Google statement they hate any website that has a link index where everybody can get in.

See, here Google delimited the barrier between trustworthy directories (which I mentiond) and spam useless "guaranteed listing for $9".

In our companies directory both web masters and reputable SEO agencies SUGGEST (notice the difference between one term and another) resources. Our editors ad for free valuable resources.

Never wondered why the same directories I consider trustworthy still rank?

Why do these directories have traffic if nobody uses them?

Would you refuse a free link from BOTW or Business.com?

Everything reduces to editorial discretion. Being a DMOZ editor for so many years was a pleasure and a headich (from 100 unreviewed website it was awesome if I could find 3-4 worthy of listing).

    Conclusion:

Decent metrics (DA, TF, Alexa) AND surfing a bit a directory and if you see neutral description (people tend to believe that their website are the hottest, the best, the leading...) and you checkout a few site and see that thise sites have simething useful to offer to their readers... it's worth it.

Take a look, this is a list I maintained since the whole madness began. Everything is updated and verified.

    Hi,

When submitting to free or fee based directories, I tend to do a google search first, I then make a list of a few, Then visit the directories and take a look at the listings to see if they are well maintained, Do they look good or spammy? Plus view traffic stats using sites like alexa, Once done, I will submit over time, I think you just need to be realistic, Have a budget you want to use and stick to it.

    All the best

To list your business in all business directories is not good. Some directories can do more harm than good. Normally directories that are too easy to get listed in are bad. If the directory on the contrary does a review for every submission, it's better. Also, do a Google search on the directory and see if you get any results. If you get no result, it means that the directory has been blacklisted by Google.
