On-Page SEO for 2017

Just a short number of years ago it required virtually no work to have a site placed at the top of the search listings. Pretty much all you needed to do was to be sure you had your key word in all the appropriate components around the website page. All these on-page factors are mandatory and important, which is the reason on-page Search Engine Optimization has varied very little; you still need to tell search engines what the webpage is about.

But it's the off-page SEO (the links entering the website) which inform search engines like Google not necessarily what your site is about (on-page SEO should accomplish this) but just how excellent your web site is regarding what it's dealing with, plus how it's worth more than all of the other competing pages.

So here are the things you will need relating to great on-page SEO.

    • You need to have lots of high-quality, relevant content, not less than 700 words for each and every web page.
    • Use the search phrase and variants of this once or twice in the page . Be able to write in a natural manner, free of keywords “stuffing”.
    • Incorporate the keyword in the <title> tag and in the meta keywords area and in the description area of the header of the website page. (But remember the description is commonly used by The search engines on the results listing, so ensure it is motivating so the searcher would want to click your link on the search listings and look at your web page instead of another website:.)
    • Also place the key phrase in the <H1>, <H2> and <H3> heading tags.
    • Whenever you have graphics in the page, or a video, put your key word or variants of it, in the <Alt> meta tags belonging to the graphics.
    • Be sure any phrases or words in the keywords meta location are also present in the visible content of the web page.
    • Create a sitemap XML file and upload it to your server.
    • Create a .htaccess file (and inside it include the code to handle canonical URLs) and upload it ti your server.
    • Make sure that your web site has the compulsory and suggested pages such as a Privacy Policy, About Us webpage, Help page, a Terms of Use page, 404 Error page and, if required, Disclaimer page. Ensure that there are links to those pages from your index page and all the other pages, to ensure that each and every page can be connected from every other webpage with just a single click.
    • Try to reduce bounce rate by keeping your visitors on your web page for as long as possible through engaging these people by using helpful information - a video or a poll, for instance. At the same time include indented listings: Search engines love bulletpoint lists. Whenever visitors click away after only a matter of seconds the search engines will know this and deduce your webpage is not what users want to look at, and your position in the search results will decrease as a result. You are able to see your bounce rate from your Google Analytics data (you do use Google Analytics, don’t you?). Keep the site load time short. The top way to avert long load times is to decrease the size of (by which I mean size in Kb not in pixels). There are free tools for this, like http://www.reduceimages.com/ and http://www.imageoptimizer.net/Pages/Home.aspx . When done right it does not decrease quality.

Keep to all these essential measures and you'll be in control of best Search Engine Optimisation procedure for 2017.

    That's partly my point.

It is difficult for on-page SEO to vary, given the limited number of factors that govern the ability of a web page to tell search engines what it is about. On-page SEO does not "evolve" in the same way as off-page SEO.

Although I would say that we were not as informed about canonical URLs as we are now, and the importance of XML sitemaps was not universal, when they should be now.

I have another post about off-page SEO coming up.

AMP stands fr Accelerated Mobile pages. It is designed to give your mobile visitors a fastly loading website. With AMP you can create a HTML version of your website which is especially designed for your mobile visitors. AMP makes your site load faster in mobile devices.

You might want to make them REV, in the event you have news posts. But in the event you don't have news articles, making them REV will be be work that you can save yourself.
