Pinterest is a better traffic source mainly because of its setup.

A pin can be relevant and last for several weeks/months by getting repins. Thus generating traffic towards your website.

Whereas on Instagram you can post only one link in your BIO, making it hard to generate traffic unless your followers will click on your profile and and then on that BIO link.

In additon, Pinterest is like a 'save ideas' board, whereas on Instagram , you can post only Content 'you must generate'

Like others who have commented, I prefer Pinterest. It's easier to monetize and I personally get much more traffic from it too.

In regards to Instagram you can only have one link in your bio, so you'll want to create lots of quality content/images on your Instagram account and add relevant hashtags so that when people find you they'll be inclined to click your link in the bio.

The link in the bio should ideally be a squeeze page/landing page where you can capture emails. Then as you start to build your email list you can start monetizing.

It requires some effort and time, but it can be done. I hope that helps give you an idea of how to monetise Instagram.

    All the best!

As a women's lifestyle blogger, I prefer using pinterest to drive traffic to my site, but instagram for media/ affiliate marketing. If you partner with different brands and companies on a personal level, then Instagram is a wonderful way to generate new business. Companies on insta are always looking for strong accounts to collaborate with. However, you must have the targeted audience they are looking for. And unlike Pinterest, there aren't group boards etc to help expose your content...

    Happy New Year! xx
