Yes, still working but that should be geo target based.

e.g. If you website is .co.uk and your target audience is UK based then you should submit the directory .co.uk, org.uk and other uk based domain only.

You can basically count the directories worth submitting to on one hand. Submitting to others is a waste of time. And submitting to lots of others is likely to put you in Google's disfavor.

The directory submission for better SERP ranking is almost gone. Their is no use of directory submission techniques and if you do that in bulk, their will be negative effect at SERP ranking but yes, you can still submit your website at DMOZ directory, because the search engines still taking feedback from this directory, But it's not easy to submit at DMOZ. These peoples accept only few of the great website.

If they are quality directories then they can help but you will want to be sure that they are quality directories. Stay away from the cheap automated approval directories since they basically let any site into their directory. ;)

How are people going to find out if a directory is high PR or not?

Google no longer shares that information with the public. Only Google will know what the PR is for a website.

PR is just for google now! not public.
Next, only submit your links in quality directories in proper categories, I think there are only 20-30 quality directories out of which only 15 may be of very good ones.
Beyond this point, directory submission is useless in my opinion and as the latest Penguin 4.0 algorithm update rolled out on 23rd September 2016, directory submission will become of zero value. This will be followed by social bookmarking & duplicate article submissions.

From my point of view, directory submission isa wasteof time. Submitting in too many directories withthe same contentwill be no use. Because no one now using these type of directories for finding any services or products and backlinks from directories are not useful for rankings or better SERPs results.
You can go for local business listing, local ads, review site listings etc.

I think sites like Blokube, Blog Engage, RetweetBird have replaced directories, reality is, no one sites and goes through a directory anymore even google.

Directory submission sites seemed a lot of effective for me around 4 years ago or so, but not as much these days in my opinion. What does still work are getting links on authority sites, or high PR sites, like Reddit and Delicious. Of course you want to have Facebook/Twitter/Youtube links if you can as well.

There is no way for the general public to check PR anymore. Google has made it private and no longer shares any kind of PR data with the general public. So, I would just check other things that you think are relevant and look at the quality of the directory that you are thinking about getting a link from.

Based on my experience, article directory submission is a waste of time. It no longer has SEO value (especially with the Penguin 4.0 update) and it doesn't have the capacity to drive traffic to your website like it did before. Just my 2 cents.

Hi all. I can say directories are still working but only with high pr. I want to submit my site to Dmoz but I am unable to find the submit url as I am selecting the specific category and sub-category, it is only redirecting to the home page.. Please help me regarding this issue as Dmoz link is more powerful backlink.

How are you going to be able to tell what the PR is for a directory? Google no longer shares that information to the public.
