Best free antivirus?

I've only been using Windows Defender and want to make sure my laptop is protected properly now I'm using it for work.

Anyone recommend any free antivirus softwares which are reliable?

 

I have been using free avast + malware bytes for a decade and have never had any issues. I should note, you really want to be running adblock edge on ff or chrome as that will stop most drive by infections anyway.

 

Hello, I used to work in a Computer repair shop, so have removed millions of virus and spyware.

To keep you computer running smoothly and virus free, I would recommend running CCleaner every week or so, Use free AVG antivirus, and run Spybot search and destroy once a month, which is also free.

Another tip to speed up your computer is to organise the main folders like docs, downloads,desktop into one 3-4 folder, or even better move all the storage files to your D:drive, this will surprisedly speed up your machine.

I have used many, but one time I liked Guardian Anti Virus. But after using an year when I renewed, it was disturbing to my laptop's software. Then next I started to use Quick heal and Norton. Its better for me.

 

Thanks, another good suggestion. I've ended up going with Bitdefender and using some of the other tools mentioned above along with it.

i always used avast as well,i find it very good and not hogging the cpu like other programs.

 

I think, that best antivirus can’t be a free! Also, you can use Avira, Panda, AVG!

Also, I meant to say, in CCleaner use the main program "Run Cleaner", then the registry "Scan for issues" first then "Fix selected issues".

Then again on CCleaner, if you really want to add a professional touch go to "Tool" then "Uninstall" then a list of all your programs on your computer will show, use this feature to uninstall any unwanted or unused programs, or any extra internet explorer toolbars you don't use, or any programs you don't recognize or look unsafe (you can search google if you are not sure of what each program is",
"don't touch any Microsoft Corporation's programs"

Then on the same Tools page you will see start-up, go there and disable any programs that you don't need starting up when your computer starts, for example, the only programs I have enabled are AVG as we want the antivirus running all the time, and skype so I am alway online.

...but as some of us in the IT industry say: The best anti-virus is common sense.

 

I use mostly NOD32 antivirus. But as rsfkii said. Its depend on user sense, which antivirus he/she most like for use

 

I think if you are looking free antivirus then you need to check out avast antivirus.

 

Windows Defender is a good option. But if you want to go for a paid one, I suggest you to try SafeBytes. I have tried different Antivirus and among those SafeBytes provide better result. I have been using this one for more than six months.

 

Avira antivirus 2016 is a good option.

At China, we using 360 Enterpise Anti-Virus, which is free and good. AVG AntiVirus

In the market, if you willing to pay abit, I will recommend Norton™ AntiVirus software

 

I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials it's amazing, i also do CCleaner once a week and that's it, working like a machine!

 

Avast is currently the best on the market.

As a computer tech, I've seen Norton and McAfee miss way too much. Windows Defender and MS Security Essentials are like swiss cheese. Avoid them!

I personally use the Internet Security version of Avast, but the paid version works fine for most people. You should supplement your antivirus with a good antimalware program. Malwarebytes is good, but I like SuperAntiSpyware as well. CCleaner is a good temp file / junk manager. Spybot Anti-beacon removes tracking from Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.
