Dear community, I am thinking to start a quotes website but to make it somehow like free contribution, where people can edit or ask for editing quotes. I have collected 600k quotes till now and I am working in the website. My problem is that i do not have so much experience with seo and a friend of mine told me that websites without "unique content"(quotes can not be unique), probably will not get indexed by google and will experience hard time to rank. I don't want to discourage you but yes your friend is right. Ranking a quotes website is one of the toughest job. Even the top SEO experts will struggle in doing this. So instead of focusing on ranking on Google, focus on Social Media. Create different pages on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Snapchat and other such networks. Create beautiful images of your quotes and post on these websites. Do shoutouts with other pages and profiles. If you have a budget, use it for Facebook advertising. So if you have a good social media pages for your website, then it will help you get ranked slowly. Social signals play an important role in website ranking. Now, I can't tell you everything here but one more thing you must remember is that it will take a hell lot of time. Maybe 6 months or even 1 year. You need to be patient otherwise all your efforts will wash away. Don't EVER try any black hat methods just because you are not growing. Find guides on Social Media marketing, paid advertising and other such things. Improve your knowledge for SEO and keep learning. It's hard but that doesn't mean it's not possible. Editing 600k quotes for unique content is a tough job so you need to hire for this because of the work load due to time consuming and analysis.

Actualy the site should be of unique content. The conten should not be copied from other sites. Then only your site will be ranked. Frist have to do on page oiptimization. Then off page optimization. On page optimization is optimizing site with meta tag, proper h1 tag, images with alt tags etc. Then have to do off page optimization like link building, posting in social sites etc.
