Because PR is an obsolete measure. Google probably just archived all their data and left nothing in the servers for the toolbars to fetch.

It's not that they are not considering PR anymore, just the external score is not updated anymore. Even back in it's heyday, the Toolbar PR was only updated a few times a year while Google kept an internal score that was updated continuously.

They removed public access from accessing PR data. In reality PR is still exists. PR was invented by Larry Page and it is part of Google's core algorithm. PR is based on complex math. It will always be there. The reality why you no longer able to see it is Google is hiding it from the public eye, eliminating opportunities for people to make money outside of Google. The reality is PR is still there. The best course of action is to review recently released quality guidelines by Google - http://static.googleusercontent.com...s/assets/searchqualityevaluatorguidelines.pdf

didn't notice that sorry! You can try other trusted PR tool to check the validity.

There are NONE!! Google have not made available the up-to-date PR for >2 yrs, so they all have old data. Now they have cut off access to that old data as well.

Google "snobs" are going crazy.... More and more "closed doors" for web masters.... They are "shooting themselves in the foot".... This crap will back fire. Let's see what happens once Microsoft will be done with "swallowing" Yahoo. Maybe Bing will kick the crap out of Google eventually, it's heading that way in my opinion...

I always felt they were shooting themselves in the foot by releasing PR.
0 - 10 is too narrow a range and it gave the impression that a site with SEO efforts applied had more value than a well built site with useful info.
