Just google the word you're not sure about and google will tell you if it's correct or not : "Did you mean: haven't " tells you google if you search "havn't"

No thanks. I would sooner trust a fellow writer than Google!

    Results 1 - 10 of about 190,000,000 for havn't.

    Results 1 - 10 of about 187,000,000 for haven't

Those are the results I am currently getting and it seems that Google would then mislead me on the information. I am currently using "haven't" now so the problem is solved and has been for 7 days. Not much new to talk about in this thread unless someone actually changes how the word is used I guess.

    Happy boxing day...

Google searches its cache (as I understand it), so "havn't" is apparently found a lot due to a lot of . . . we'll say, "typo's."

Check dictionary.com. I just did. haven't is a contraction of have not. There were no results for hav'nt.

basically I'm reviving an old thread because no matter how many years i have spoke it the English language becomes evermore confusing with time and you realize that all the rules you learned in school do not apply around the board.. from what you learn in school the word have should sound like HAYVE which is why a lot of people (including myself) get it wrong time and time again. as a writer i am constantly sounding words out in my head as i spell them and sounding out the word haven't is spelled havn't.. in English with the rules we are taught have should be spelled hav which would make sense if that is the reason lots of people miss spell it. i before e is an other common rule which does not always apply. then you have abbreviations which are supposed to replace a letter with an apostrophe but ocationally take phrases and jumble them into an abbreviation ie. do they not abbreviated to don't . we will never fully understand our base language. not even an English professor fully understands English and how or when to break the rules.. sorry for reviving an old thread.. i hope this was helpful at least

The correct spelling is haven't. It is "have" and "not" squished together to make the contraction. More info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:List_of_English_contractions

I know this thread is OLD, but since someone else has resuscitated this thread, I will add my two cents even though @jeewant_gupta_051275 has not been seen on DP since December 2013.

"No body" does not mean the same thing as "nobody", which would be the correct spelling in this case. Hope one of your clients did not see that.

I have seen both of these spellings several times. I think you can use both options if you want. Don`t deny yourself anything.

Spelling is not a democracy where spellings of words are voted up or down because of use or misuse as the case may be.

Using non-standard spellings can be confusing, or even dangerous to the reader. Further, when one hangs his shingle out as a writer, one MUST conform to STANDARD spellings lest the potential client hires someone else.
