Why is my blog with 500k visitors making only $60?

I am have been writing a popular blog since 2009, almost 7 years. The blog gets nice organic traffic about 22,000 clicks and 550,000 impressions monthly. I checked this in google webmasters.

I put up adsense which brings about $50 to $60 month. Those are the only income, no advertisers and few dollars here and there from affiliate links.

Considering the amount of traffic, the real shocker is this blog never made any good $$$ since years considering there are good niche content.

Please somebody give be some insights what can i do to monetize this blog?

get a targetted and organic traffic, check if you have bot traffic, if yes than remove it

 

Have you checked to see how many of those so called visitors are bots?
Be surprised at how many bots show up.
Then when an engine like baidu finds your blog and starts grabbing urls of pages?
Anyways, bottom line is not how many uniques and returns that show up, but how many are real humans who really want to be there.

 

apart from all of the above points.
How many of visitors are from asian countries ?
Just message me ur blog or post it here ..i will try finding and then telling u reason why is it so.

Aside from checking for bots etc, start asking these questions.
-Does your website has a clear call to action?
-which stage of your sales funnel has a drop off?
-Have you split tested different call to action, ad space arragement?
-Can you segment certain traffic to certain ads?
-Are the ads or offers you have relevant to your blog?

If you can answer the questions above you will go a long way in making your website more profitable.

 

Hi olddocks. Where are you getting your numbers from? Is that a reliable source? I am not an expert at this but I tried look for information about your site in "ALEXA" and also in "COMPETE" and the info about visitors where not clear though the ranking information was positive. Then I used "SIMILARWEB" and it showed you had a total visit count for the last 6 months of only 44.4k visits.

So it is possible as other members have stated here that most of your visits are from bots. You've gotto find a way to really check into that brother.

Other than that, with that many clicks you say you get per month you should be making a lot of money.

I got these numbers from Google webmasters, which i believe information should be authentic.

 

From 44k visits ur making 60$ and from 8-9 visits i am making 8-10 $ both have indian traffic hence you can conclude..

 

Well olddocks then I would think some how you are actually getting to many clicks from bots. And I agree with garry420 so if you're getting $60 from 24k visitors (according to google) then something is wrong there because you should be making a lot more. I know there are many more factors that influence the overall performance of any site but for that many visitiors your getting you should be making a lot more money.

I suggest 2 simple things just for testing:
1- As akki002 suggested get a traffic check for your site to see how many clicks are really coming from bots.
2- Change the offer you promote. For example get a CPA main offer where you get paid when people subscribe to something for free. That way if you place a really nice free offer in front of that many visitors you'll get many subscribers and of course you'll see an increase on your income.

 

Interesting facts Diego. I believe these are not bot traffic as i have proof from Google statistics per page.

 

You show here search impressions which is 407k not website impressions, don't you have google analytics installed? There should be your real number of daily unique visitors and generated impressions.

No of clicks is unique visitors i believe.

 

I think people are correct here, many of those numbers might be pure bots and well make sure the ads you have serve the correct audience you have as well.
I would look into more direct advertising as well, with a lot of visitors and possible clicks on the ads, I'd go for more native ads,
paid reviews and stuff like that than just adsense.

 

Aside from getting a good amount of traffic, I wonder how much bounce rate do you get per month?
I mean, you should not just look on how many traffic you get but also how long they engage and how much bounce you've been getting..

 

You need to Change UI and UX of your website. Though it is getting traffic but it's not visually appealing and User experience is not great either.

Your Website is not optimize for mobile. Please optimize your website for mobile as it will improve your UX and give you better conversion.

 

After checking if you have bot traffic, I think that you should work on your conversion funnel.
I don`t see a clear call to action and I also didn`t see an adsense ad on the homepage. (maybe because I have adblocker turned on, or because you don`t have it).
Play with the position of your ads.
And you might also work on your design. I`m not too excited about it.

 

I think you haven't monetized it well. I recommend to use CPM ads or even Adsense to earn extra bucks since you are getting lot of impressions.
