Cut to the chase, this is what Google wants in SEO

I've been writing SEO articles for years now. It wasn't
my chosen field but I'd never been one for using SEO
extensively. To me, it wasn't about getting lots of traffic,
    but getting organic, targeted traffic.

I didn't use keyword stuffing nor any black hat stuff as I
knew Google was watching and the engineers were developing
software that can peel through the bull of the spammers and scammers
and it's now working thanks to software like Google's RankBrain.

What's happening now for marketers are two and ONLY two ways of
    gaining ranking authority with Google.

    One: Quality
That means your website and/or blog has to be professional. From
top to bottom, you had better have the best design, navigation, content,
and response time. No keyword stuffing, no bs inbound and outbound
links. In other words: Honesty is the best policy.

Two: Paid links via Google's AdWords
You knew this already but it's expensive, sometimes real expensive and calls
for even more money invested in keyword analysis.

These two tactics are all you've got nowadays unless your site has
content that social media can't do without. It's about how much
organic attention your site gets. It shows that people need what your
site has to offer and means you're providing a service not a business
    platform.

Google is offering tons of great tools for doing all this but I can tell you
that pretty soon, the software being developed is going to wipe out
search results from the scammers and spammers. If you think last
year's "Mobilegeddon" was scary, just wait til what is going to happen
    in the near future.

Remember, create and hire professionals, no matter how much it hurts
the investment pocket because it pays for itself automatically.
Add your video and pic content to social media properly tagged and
relevant and entertaining. If you can, do your own cartoons. Cartoons
are HUGE meme material. Just one cartoon that goes viral with your
URL posted in it can make you major headway. I'm a professional cartoonist
and I've done recent political cartoon memes that got seen by 100s of millions
of people and mainstream media recognition. Don't hire cheap artists
as they run a high probability of getting you sued as they steal so much.

Don't trust cheap and easy. It will get you sooooo penalized it will ruin
your business and reputation and if AI is operating behind the scenes,
there's no AI software for compassion and mercy. You'll bu up against
the machine and you will always lose.

So watch your stats. Clean up your acts and let your websites do the
    talking and Google will respond.

I think you should have placed more emphasis on promotion in your write up.
Quality content + no promotion = a waste of time.

There's plenty of other ways to get traffic without Google Adwords and Search Engines, I don't know why everyone focuses on this all the time.

Adwords is promotion. Of course you have to have promotion but I'm talking about the fundamental things that make basic sense and gets results.

This is probably one of the biggest reasons why people fail. Google is demanding more and more, and people
that try to get online have no skills, much less basic fundamentals, and they try to get online as fast
as possible, thus hiring all the cheap people that will ultimately hurt any success that they can only dream about.

1: they start out with freebie themes that suck...
2: They fail to implement even basic seo practices.
3: Their writers can not write basic native English.
4: Their content is 300-500 words. 300-500 words may make
for good forum content, but your site content should exceed 1000 words per post.

two weeks ago i ran across a video from an affiliate that said he invested $1000/mo
into his site, and it took him two years to start seeing a return on his investment....

So when the op says invest until it hurts...
He means exactly that, there is no easy road to success...

I suspect tons of people cave in far sooner as they see nothing happening
because they had high expectations of income within a short period of time, and on
top of that, doubt starts to set in if they will even make it online to begin with....

Assuming you have done everything right...
You are your own worst enemy....

1: Most people just do not have the patience
2: Most want success right-away not 2 years down the road.
3: Most do not have skills to do their own work.
4: Most do not have the investment in order to get proper work done.

Content maybe king, however, you can have the best content in the world, but
if that is all you have, then no-one will be reading your content. quality content only
ensures you may maintain a proper rank in google, compared to getting a penalty...
If you want your content to rank, then you need quality backlinks to rank your content.
your content may rank naturally over time, but that is how seo works, it takes time....
as your site gains more google trust, then your content will rank faster....

Before you go online, then you need to ask if you should:

1: Am I willing to put work needed into my site?
2: Do I have the needed skills....?
3: If not, can I afford to invest for the next 2-5 years.
4: Do I have the patience to wait for success?

Setting up a site is like taking care of a baby..You constantly have
to feed, take care of, maintain, groom, and so forth...

Even though people have the desire to be online...
That does not mean they should...

This takes 100% passion...If you do not have 100% passion for
anything that I have mentioned above, then dont waste your money and time...

If you proceed, then you will constantly be in worry, and in misery,
and the constant doubt that you will have will just consume you...
"will i make it", "how long will it take..." I have been online for six
months, and nothing yet! These questions will just haunt you; they
will hold you back, hurting you more and more...

Just face it! your new site is competing with the rest of the world...
and you really think you are going make it in short period of time, with
no effort, and no investment, and sitting back watching TV?

If i know that you are spending 8-10 hours per day on your site...
then I have little doubt, you may make it happen in 2-5 years....
however, if you spend 8-10 hours watching TV, then it will never happen.

That is sooooo spot on! Thanks big time!

I see people just die on the vine trying to get proper SEO done. They just won't
study and follow the right paths. Quality is king nowadays and Google is going to
push for what it can get. It's like Facebook. Anytime you succeed at a strategy or
tactic, they throw a stone in the water. Just the right stone so that you can't rely on
the successful thing you've just done to get up the ladder. Facebook is famous for
    this.

You've got to be two steps ahead at any given time. You either have interesting content
that is professionally presented or you do not. It's turning into a
Thanks! That is soooooo spot on!

google adwords is nothing but money sucker , I spent $$$$ and never got any conversion. It is only for branding and not for revenue . if you just want to spend money on branding use adword.

Because it's so easy to get a domain name and website, oftentimes people forget about any type of work that goes into building a business. They may think it's going to be instant success, especially when you have people showing their PayPal accounts with daily deposits as proof of success from all the "so-called" sales. But, who knows how long it took them to get that position or how much effort it took to make it happen.

There are plenty of places online to find information about Internet marketing, SEO, and anything else one needs to start and grow a business.

Patience and getting the right tools definitely play a key role.

What is considered quality or interesting is debatable as far as I am concerned...you can write
the most interesting content on the planet, but that does not mean everyone will like it....I have
run across content so long that it could have taken 1-2 weeks to write and set up all the content...
personally, i do not like reading through huge amounts of content, however, google seems to love it....
good content may not appeal to some, bad content may appeal to others, crazy world we live in....
good or bad, at the end of the day, it is a numbers game in order to get the visitor to convert....

People seem to think they need to start with 10,000 indexed pages, and yes as
nice as it would be if i had 10,000 pages that are indexed, well, I dont. You can setup a site with as little as 10-30 pages and start earning in a few months.
not only that, you dont need 10 domains which is very difficult to maintain..

1: Pick the right profitable niche....
2: Pick the right domain for your niche....
    3: Do proper keyword research...
4: Write good content using your KW research.
5: Use quality-white hat link building....
6: Rinse, Repeat, and and keep waiting.. :)
7: While you wait, Rinse, Repeat, and more waiting...
8: add 1-2 new articles per month....
(or 1000 if you wish, more is not always better...)
9: depending how competitive your niche is, then
you may have to Rinse, Repeat, and wait some more...
10: always go after, high volume, low competition keywords...
11: Do not forget about proper on page seo....
12: Be active on social media. It does not matter if social media
is doing anything for you; Google does see this as a positive thing...

People always focus on the amount of content they have or dont have...
"I dont have enough content..." Remember, more is not always better...
The more content you have, then the more you have to focus on in order
to get that content to rank, and you need good backlinks to the
content that you want to rank so you can pull in traffic, sure, you can
add 1000 posts, I am sure they will get natural ranking over time...
but can you really focus on 1000 articles, probably not. Just focus sending
backlinks to the content that you want to get ranked for right now...

    Its not rocket science....
As quitters give up, you advance even more...

Sure, there are a few things you need to do...
    :)

Well said! I've done that for decades now.
Being a professional cartoonist and writer there are always
people in need of what I do. My only mistake over the years
was not exploiting the new ground that I had broken. Ideas
flow to me all the time and viable ones at that. It still calls for
applying sound principles with the fundamentals of what makes
    a site successful.

You're right, Google wants long copy. 1,500 words is the average
and this is due to crappy writing teams and mills that are setup
in impoverished countries. Those people work under slavemasters
writing horrible content but they take advantage of the math that
propels SEO. Google knows this and has been developing software
to combat it. I've watched huge companies that crank out the swill
for years, suddenly fall of the rankings like the world collapsed. They
then come piling in to ask me to rewrite or write new content but they
don't want to pay for it. If you want premium results you pay a premium
    price.

It doesn't get anymore complicated than that.

All the gurus and SEO systems that promise the moon don't mean jack
anymore. Experts who can walk the walk are the best. Just don't panic
and think miracles will happen overnight.

Only when you have something so unique that searches for it bring up
to your site. Proprietary content is king.

It is like any business, it always comes down to longer and better. If you don't create exquisite things, your potential customers will go to competition. As simple as that.

    great post

Your homepage content should be long enough to clarify who you are, what you do, where you’re located (if you’re local), your value proposition, and what visitors should do next. These visitors should leave satisfied not confused. You don't need massive amounts of content to rank high.
