Exhaust one social network or work on all?

I'm planning on starting up an ecommerce website and currently trying to strategise a plan for social networks. Would it be better to focus on each social network like Instagram or work on all of them at the same time as their are quite a few I'd like to be on. I was thinking I should exhaust each social network site until I know I can't do any further and then move on to another.

If it were me, I'd start building a presence on 2 or 3 social networks. If one performs much better than the others, you can focus more of your efforts there.

I agree with danasurvey. You should focus on 3 social networks that are ideal for your business and have simillar features to manage easier your campaigns. After some weeks/months you can evaluate your presence and decide how you will continue. If your metrics are dissapointing on one network you can stop and focus on the other two or choose a new network to start in its place.
If you choose to work on all networks by yourself you have to spend a lot of your time to have a notable presence and you will won't have the flexibility to adjust your time to other fields as your business grows. I think you should start small (1-3 networks) and scale in the process.

Thank you both for your advice! Yeah I think I'll work on three social networks for now. I'm thinking Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for now and just try and make myself involved as much as I can with them three for a few months and I'll evaluate them like you said. Need to make campaigns for those special occasions as well like holidays and black Friday etc so will plan in advance for them as well. I'll also be posting my products on several sites that allow me to post products so hopefully will get some traffic and sales from there as well

Man, I know that this is a rational decision and that you have to use your brain in order to make it, but I would commit to all social networks at the same time. What can I say, SEO guys are monopolists by nature :)

It depends on what you are hoping to gain from the Social Network.
    Each one has it's benefit.
    1. Twitter is good for SEO
    2. Facebook is good for traffic, leads, and advertising
    3. Instagram is great for leads, traffic, app downloads
    4. Google+ is good for SEO, Backlinks
The rest of the Social Networks I'm not sure if it's worth focusing on initially.

I guess for me it depends on what you're selling. But honestly, when I am having toast and jam, I like my jam a bit thick on the bread. Meaning, if you spread yourself too thin on each network, you won't taste enough of the full benefits from each. I'd go heavy on Facebook and push those comments over to Twitter, and I'd focus on Youtube myself too. Good luck with your site!

I love your food analogy! It makes a great point. Judging by your forum icon, you like food a lot. :)

Love the food analogy as well! Yeah that's what my understanding was I rather provide my customers/potential customers beneficial posts that would attract engagement. Youtube I'm not too sure I should use Youtube maybe just give my products for review

Not sure what you're selling , but there are tools that let you create little product feature videos for youtube then you can link out to the product (if posted on FB). I've found this useful. As an example - I have a wideo account. Look at the templates section. Here you can whip up a bunch of videos in a day.

If you setup a Tumblr account, then you can promote to other social
sites without even leaving your tumblr page. I can post a video, and it
is posted right away to facebook/twitter, then click pin to pin the video,
then run over to G+ and post it there, so within 1-3min I am done....

I think yesterday, I got 50 pin followers, so far, that is the most
activity I am seeing between all the social accounts....

In fact, I bet I am already sending traffic to a site that
I do not have up yet, as I have been working on setting up social accounts.
