    This site here has a really cool hover over the outer navigation links, the word expands on hover:
    http://www.danielspatzek.com/

    I have been trying to figure it out by inspecting with Chrome but I don't see what is causing this.

    1) what is it?
    2) how can I figure it out, with Chrome inspect?

    Thanks so much guys!!

    That's easy... thru Firefox :)
    Turn on Inspector and while your mouse is still within hovering range, right-click and press Q. I thought Chrome has same steps too, no?
    .newsblog_menuitem:hover {
        letter-spacing: 12px;
    }
    Code (CSS):

    I don't see it :( I don't see the "hover" at all.

    I do see both the same things in FF and Chrome so that's good.

    I found out the problem, by accident! I had to right click the mouse in the inspect window and select "hover" because it wasn't showing it by default! omg what a pain! thanks for the help much appreciated!
