it depends. if you are just in search to include your keyword in it, forget it. Money keywords as anchors do more damage than good.

However, try to find blogs with real discussion, participate in it and leave your website with your real name, you will get direct traffic.
And direct traffic is a new ranking factor!

As for me I always can determine whether some blog post is a scam.
So it can the negative reaction.
It's better for you to try writing guest posts, it will be much more efficient.

 

I think letting a comment on some bloggers won't help you to much. There are some blogs that have comluv plugin in which they allow you to show your latest article(s), but most of them are nofollow. But it's a nice way to get some visitors if you have a good article.

Personally, I have some blogs bookmarked in Feedly and from time to time I go around an comment to their latest articles. Since this is a list of blogs that have some interest with me, it's a kind of a double benefit
