    Yeah this is the best strategy for OnPage Optimization but OffPage Optimization is the most effective tool too. Do Link-Building also i.e. Directories Submission, Blogs, Social Bookmarking. These will help you too.

    Google is getting smarter day by day. Old on page techniques may not work. Writing semantically rich content is the way to go. Use LSI keywords, and publish relevant content.

    Whenever you want to rank a particular post, publish 2-3 posts on the same topic and interlink them.

    Make sure to keep the content high-quality. Google Rankbrain algorithm (A.I.) is evolving.

    There is NO change and no difference at all between 2015 & 2016... You just follow those steps that you mentioned and be sure to check for a good keyword optimization (density, H1 tags for main keyword, H2 for secondary keywords, etc.) ;)
