Getting rid of Gmail?

This is what I heard but I haven't heard anything beyond this. If they are getting rid of gmail, how will this effect those who have said emails? Will they even have an email at all? I can't see them keeping google+ without a google email.

I'd be very surprised if they dropped gmail. They're more likely to do away with the free version (or severely limit it).

In the worst case example you'd just setup Outlook to clear your mail and go back to having .pst files (but I hope not).

Close to a 0% chance of this happening.

They wouldn't just shutup shop, it would be sold to someone else.

I also believe Gmail is here to stay, but stranger things have happened. Back in the day, no one thought Myspace would go the way of the dinosaur.

Gmail's demise would be 1000x more shocking than Myspace's demise.

Gmail isn't going anywhere, snopes whatever you read and I bet it will be false.

Actually we can't really get rid of gmail nowadays, because this mail is connecting to so many SNS sites like google plus, twitter and many blogers can loggin with gmail

I cannot access most of my Gmail accounts now because that stupid "Something seems different" about the way you are accessing the email error message keeps coming up and Google keeps trying to require me to enter a mobile phone number.

All I wanted was an email that I could use for years and years without having to worry about my email address changing. I have been using Yahoo Email since 1998, but it sucks so bad now (the Javascript is slow and chokes the browser, it can take minutes for emails to show up in your inbox after they are sent) that I cannot stand using it. So I planned to start moving my personal email to Gmail but now that they are not allowing me to access my own emails because of some bogus "something seems different" message and requiring a mobile number, that is no longer an option either.

Everybody is using gmail nowadays. It is the most effective and advanced mail we have. Why would they cancel it?

However, I really do like this question. Can't even imagine society without gmail :) This would be something similar to an apocalypse. In my head, I see people running down the street, in their underwear, screaming: "Why Google? WHY?"

Just think if Google itself disappeared. I think people would be running down the street naked because they wouldn't be able to google "places to buy underwear" :)

I dropped Gmail, and I am using Google Plus, using my domain email address to login, no issues at all

Well, I think it'd be everyone connected to affiliate business running around naked from the shock.
