It is a competitive niche. I recently registered a domain name for a free classified ad type of website that I plan to develop when I have the time. I had not considered a business directory, but that would work, too. Also free. Probably monetized with Adsense (have not used it in years).

Finding a domain name that encompasses ads and a directory will not be so easy using generic words. Maybe a custom name, a portmanteau of some type. I tend to go with generic words for my domains. dirad.com? dirads.com? Both taken. As I said, a highly competitive niche. (I just thought of "mad hatter" and checked for "madadder.com" and that, too, is taken. Amazing.)

    listdork.com is available.

I know it is competitive niche...
    however, since I am disabled...
I have years to tinker around... :)

I do not think trying to mix words into the domain is going to work...
in fact, even putting classifieds in the domain is generic in nature...
even though the site will have multiple features; the domain needs
to stand out strong, or as strong as any brand can stand out....
so someting like dirads.com, or classdir.com just makes the domain look weaker....

Think about this..Think about CraigsList.com, nothing on CL is
in the url, why? Because CL is a brand....what would CL be
like if it was just setup today? It would be no more then
someones first name+list, however, today it is a brand, and his
old style format has not changed all that much over the years...

how about AOL...What is on their site that is located in the URL?
I gotta say, they got lucky, America Online turns into AOL.com

But you are right, trying to find that one brand url that
would meet complexity of the entire site seems impossible...

Yes, we have searched for obscure domains that we thought no one would have to sadly find out they were taken.

    How about AdCollective.com?
    OnlineCollective.com?
More things that just came to the top of my head.

    LOL!

That could be a good domain but I dont currently have 6K to spend on it and time to make it worth it.

Craigslist is a listing of classified ads. So the word "list" is somewhat descriptive of what the site is.

AOL owns the domain name "americaonline.com". AOL is just a handy abbreviation. AOL was an online content provider way back in the days before the internet so "America online" is perfectly descriptive of the service they provide. The trend for the past 20 years is for companies to attempt to brand the abbreviation instead of their full name. Hewlett Packard was called Hewlett Packard for decades until they pushed "HP". AOL used to advertise itself as "America Online" until it switched to AOL.

I was going to suggest a four or five letter acronym, but the domain squatters have scooped up most of them.

    AdViper.com
The Ad market is very competitive, and saturated, and it may take years to see any results. Last year I had 15+ amazon
sites that pulled in $500+/mo and did so for several months, and all the sites crashed, and I suspect they crashed due to
the duplicate content that the stores come with. It only took a few months for the stores to kick into gear, and if I reduced
the products in the stores, and would have used unique content, then I think the stores would be going strong today with natural growth...

I would like to have something of my own ie: My Own Site...having good amazon sites can pull in some cash,
however, you do not own anything, and if your account is closed (for whatever reason) then you are out of business.

If I could find the right domain for ie: Classifieds/Jobs then that would be long term,
and setting up amazon sites can be short term cash generating sites....
I still have a few good aged domains that are over 10 years that would be good for amazon...

You know, to someone who would be so inclined...you could probably make a ton of money off of a domain like that. If you're cool with running adult stuff.
