    from what i know, the sitemap makes it easier for google's spider to crawl your site.

    It makes the search engines aware about all of the URLs on your site. It doesn't mean they will all get indexed though.

    You should always create sitemap for indexing your website quickly and efficiently. This will always provide your website get indexed in a short time. You can generate sitemap by using free sitemap-generator website. Or, you can use a plugin if you are using wordpress platform!

    Most CMS have a plugin that generates a sitemap, for ease you should use this. For sites that don't then use xml-sitemaps.com to generate an xml sitemap and upload to your root folder using FTP or File Manager. A Sitemp is only useful is Google knows it's there, make sure you submit via Google search console!

    A sitemap is like a map with driving directions for Google. Sure they can probably find their way through your site, but with a map they can get through more efficiently and make sure to look at all of your pages.

    It is not required for a site to get indexed.

    If you entire site is indexed, you don't "need" a sitemap; however, it is good practice to have one.

    Say you add a new page and want it to get indexed quickly by Google, you would just update your sitemap and submit it to Google. It alerts them you have made changes and to reindex your site.
