To sum it up from quite a long discussion, most of what you feel like you don't "deserve" are scams. Meaning, very good looking people are either scamming you or are not good looking at all.
    So, pick and choose.

A large amount of dating sites have a lot of fake profiles used to get you to subscribe, you will probably get a lot of interest until you've paid your money and then all of a sudden they ignore you. If you do use these sites, just a simple image search in Google will often show who the person really is, they may not even know their image is being used in this way.

If you are looking to setup a dating site, you can buy databases full of people to add to your site, you then need to get some people to message new signups to convince them to subscribe.

AFF is a huge brand but they don't care about their database too much, as the site is FLOODED with fake profiles.

I got more lucky with HookupHangout.com. I was skeptical going in but was glad to be found wrong. Chatted with quite a few women and had some, that i thought, possible matches. Went out with one woman and we had most wonderful time together.
It is all about patience guys!
Don't get yourself fooled. Look for real looking women. Remember super models don't use dating sites.

Iv'e made a program for that website before and the Admins created fake profiles just to get more male users to get them to pay for memberships. I also knew one of the owners. POF is the same, although after some time they did grew a real crowd.

    I have a question too:
I just recently decided to give it a try and sign up to AFF, for the sake of curiosity of how it works. So a girl contacts me. She has no profile picture, just sends me a private message and she attaches a picture of herself there. She looks great. I answer, then a couple of messages later she asks for my phone number, which I decide to give it to her..
Then she texts me over the phone, and we begin to chat about ourselves, how we are, what we like. My impressions while talking to her is that she seems a bit younger than what I expected (the way she talks, the topic of her questions..), but it is still ok.
In the beginning she doesn’t respond when I ask her what she does for living, but then after a number of messages she tells me that she is a porn model for AFF and some affiliate sites. She says she takes nude pictures but she doesn’t have sex with clients..... ok.
So then she asks me if we can meet. Of course as a man I can’t deny such offer although I am a bit skeptical. She tells me that for security purposes I need to sign up on a site that will verify my identity and pay an additional 5$. Here it all begins to be a little weird.. I tell her I am skeptical about this, she says it is purely for her safety to be able to meet people...... ok, so I decide to try, and so she sends me a link via email, wich I click to and takes me a to another dating site, that requires me to sign in and put my credit card infos again. Under the terms and conditions, it is stated that the registration is free for the first 2 days, then I will be billed 39.99$. I told her the website that showed up, she says it’s not that one, so she sends me another link... which directs me to another dating site and another credit card application to fill and the same condition..! At this point I tell her I will continue the next day, and she pushes me to go on and do it now, so that then we can meet and do on. To me it sounds a bit too much like a scam.
Has anybody experienced something like this and how does it work exactly?
    Thank you all.
