    If you want to use pictures for Seo, the best choice will be GIP. It’s one of the best formats, which can be used for Seo. Also, GIP has a good format and its lighter than other formats.

    Well, about 80% of these answers were just made to get a quick post. The best formats are, without ANY doubt, PNG and JPEG. JPEG for photography like pictures and PNG for everything else.

    I think the good question here is how to optimized an images in terms of SEO stuff.
    Before you upload an image to your site the file name should be like this for example(on-page-optimization)
    Put the title for example (On Page Otimization)
    Lastly put the alt text for example (On Page Otimization)

    Size of the image is important, advisable 300x300 or lower than that.

    Most probably, there are many types of foramtting of images like jpg,png,gif,bmp etc.I would prefer you JPEG format among these all for your SEO. Because JPEG formatted images have their own clearity.Images used for SEO should be relavant and should be decent.If you want to add images,they should not make your site always loading.So use JPEG format as possible as you can.

    The formats do different things.
    If you have straight lines in your image like you would in a chart, don’t use jpg use png instead. Jpg can not handle straight lines, it burs them.
    don’t use gif unless you need it to be animated
    Use png-8 or 24 are fine for most things but jpg is often smaller.
    png 8 and 24 both do transparency, but png 8 transparency does not work in ie6

    png24 is good for all occasions but is not always the smallest
