Which ecommerce platform do you use?

    Hi everyone,

I’m currently doing some research into all of the current ecommerce solutions and trying to determine whether there might be a need for something a little different to what’s currently available, so I would really appreciate some input from anyone that sells online.

If you could answer any or all of the following questions, I would find it really helpful.

    1. Which ecommerce platform do you currently use?

    2. Which kind of solution do you favor, hosted or open source/custom? Why?

    3. Do you sell products through an Amazon or Ebay store? If yes, then do you feel that these platforms allow you to build a brand identity as well as some of the other solutions?

    4. If Amazon/Ebay allowed more customisation and allowed you to use a custom domain, would this option be attractive to you?
    Thanks for your time

We work with a number of e-commerce sellers big and small, and have experience with our own stores.

We support about a dozen integrations (and growing), but the ones we would most likely recommend to people would be Magento, Shopify, and WooCommerce. Those three have the best built-in feature set, community support, and extensibility through apps and extensions.

Hosted vs open source depends on the user's needs. If you want to be able to fine-tune every part of your store, from landing to checkout, and you don't mind getting your hands dirty with development and maintenance, go with Magento or another open source self-hosted platform. Sellers that are less experienced in web development or don't want to deal with maintaining a server stack and codebase will want to stick to a hosted service like Shopify.

A lot of our customers sell through Amazon, eBay, and Etsy in addition to their own store. These marketplaces are primarily used to get additional sales volume by reaching buyers that would otherwise not find a standalone store. Your ability to establish brand identity on a marketplace site is extremely limited, and the competition is very stiff. Generally speaking, your volume might be higher on marketplaces, but your margins will be higher on your own site. It's a good idea to consider doing both though.

A custom store and domain wouldn't really fit into a marketplace environment in my eyes. People shop on Amazon because they can shop and compare between a ton of sellers and products all at once. They know what to expect when they click into a category or open a product listing page, and they can trust the sellers and reviewers because the content is hosted by Amazon. This familiarity and credibility might be lost when seller customization is expanded.

    - Shopify
    - Hosted because it is easy
    - I sell products from Amazon. I am an affiliate basically.
    - No. Why would I be building my business on someone else’s domain?

    I use PrestaShop.
I prefer an open source solution since it makes me capable of tweaking the shop in anyway I want. With a hosted solution you are much more limited to the bounderies of the platform.

Wordpress and Magento both are best, If you have limited products and don't haev problem with inventory then use wordpress. and if you have many products and want to maintain inventory as well then use Magento. I have my online shoes store for men and women on Magento. I also have listed my products on Amazon and Ebay. And am getting sale from all three platforms. Do proper seo for my site and getting sale of $2000 per week.
So, i suggest list your products on Amazon and Ebay and then use open source store too.
